Northwestern Admissions

Hey guys so I was just wondering what you though my chances were for being accepted to Northwestern. Here’s my basic profile:

ACT

1 composite: 30 English: 26 Math: 34 Reading: 28 Science: 31

2 composite: 30 English: 25 Math: 36 Reading: 31 Science: 29

Also which ACT score should I send in? If not both?
I also just took another ACT and am waiting to get the results of this one back so we’ll see how I do on that one

UW GPA: 3.85-3.9 ish
W GPA: 4.85-4.9
I get mostly A’s with the occasional B in classes that won’t greatly pertain to my future such as AP English and/or AP Spanish
-I’m in the top 5-10% of my class of 1,000 students
-I’m in-state
-I’m currently taking three AP’s and will be taking five next year as a senior, all of my other courses are either honors or accel
-Im interested in Math/Science, most likely pre-med/pre-dental or engineering of some sort.
-Im in the National Honor Society, Math Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, all of that sort of stuff.
-I’ve been wrestling and doing gymnastics for four years, I’m currently a junior, and I compete at the varsity level.

-I also do science olympiad and model UN along with volunteering at Loyola medical center and have a few different summer jobs.
-With sports and all I don’t really have a ton of times for clubs that I’m interested in so I mean I may not be class president but I get home at like 7:00 to start doing my homework which I think should be given more weight. Also I have a lot of leadership positions associated with sports and have gotten scholar awards for these sports for having the highest GPA of my class consistently.
-I don’t know how much this will help but I got accepted to go to a pre-med camp at northwestern over the summer where we like stay in the dorms and learn at their med school. If it won’t help my application I mean hey, it’ll still be a blast.
-I also feel like I would have a lot of demonstrated interest in the school, I would be applying early decision and also the camp amongst numerous college visits/tours.

Also I don’t know if this will help my chances at all but my mom works at Northwestern Hospital and if I were to enroll as an undergraduate there then I would get like half tuition or some deal like that. I’m not particularly sure but just thought I should let yah know.

I’m also not some superficial guy just trying to thicken up my profile with EC’s and whatnot. I feel like I could really set myself apart and show who I really am in the recommendation letters and definitely the essays.

Tell me what you think and if you think it would be too much of a stretch any advice on more attainable colleges would be awesome too thank you guys so much!!

Improve your ACT to 34 (or at least 33) and you should have a good shot in ED.

Take Sat II in two areas related to your intended field (they may be less important if you have AP classes in relevant areas and do very well in AP exams).

I agree with osuprof. You need to raise that ACT score, and take and do well on SAT subject tests, but if you write some great essays and frame yourself and your passions and interests well you should have as good of a chance as anybody. Which still isn’t all that great of a chance, but still.

Update: Took the ACT again in April and got a 33 so i hope that helps a bit more and i mean we’ll just have to see. Thanks!

Well done! That definitely dosn’t guarantee admission, but it probably increases your chances some.

how long in between was act #2: 30 and act #3: 33 taken? thats a huge jump!

Update number 2: I got deferred which I mean is better than denied I guess, I’m doing all of the normal things one should do when getting deferred, mid year reports and the like. So we’ll just have to see.
