Well, how is it?! I've been looking at a bunch of schools and Northwestern is one of my top choices (academically based), but I'm curious about the other things....especially campus....any comments?!

it's absolutely beautiful with some random @$$ architecture at times. it's right on the shore of lake michigan so it's cold as balls. but if you're concerned about it being some ugly @$$ campus, it's quite the opposite.

it's also fairly spread out around a nice college town. the main campus itself isn't too claustrophobic feeling but still is pretty contained.

It's beautiful - the lake is just amazing and the architecture is really striking. There are beautiful trees and nice open spaces. It does get cold in the winter though, so be prepared with the right clothes.

"it's right on the shore of lake michigan so it's cold as balls. "

The north shore is cold (I live here), but the fact that northwestern is right on the lake means that it's warmer than inland temperatures. Also, the lake cools down nearby areas in warm weather, due to the high specific heat of water.

In short, the weather, although still brutal, is nicer than places that are farther away from the lake.

I really like the campus, and I think the snow is awesome It's gorgeous in the witner, but that's just me and I like snow. (Grew up in Chicago)

I absolutely love NU's campus, for me it's an ideal college setting. Plus, like grtheman says, the lake keeps it warmer than inland in the winter and cooler than inland in the summer -- always a plus, since there are pretty drastic temp differences between winter and summer in Chicago.

I personally don't like that the campus is integrated w/Evanston...you can't tell where the campus begins/ends. I love Evanston, however...it's quite the ideal college town. (I live 15 minutes away). The campus is pretty, but it doesn't feel like a community b/c it is so integrated w/the city. A lot of people like this, but I prefer other campuses. I think it just depends on where you feel more comfortable.

NU's campus is gorgeous -- a very interesting combination of old architecture, tree-lined streets and the most gorgeous lakefront area all along the length of the campus. There's this one little unassuming room that I totally fell in love with, that I found by accident when I got lost one day. It's on the second floor of a building next to the lake near the Theatre & Interpretation Center, and it looks out over Lake Michigan through three walls of glass. It's a very small room with sofas and a chair or two. Such a peaceful little spot -- I could live there.

I wouldn't like it if the campus blended into Chicago, but I love that it blends into Evanston. Everything's so close -- restaurants, drugstores, grocery, etc. -- it all feels like part of the campus, even the lake!

what i meant is that it gets very windy because of its shoreline location sorry about my lack of clarification
