Northwestern Early Decision Release Date

I could see 600, maybe even 625 or 650, but above that seems to be a stretch.

600/1500 applicants = 40% acceptance rate. That's possible. Anything higher probably won't happen.

I am hoping for the 13th or the 14th.

The way I see it is like this -

The increase is because more people are applying for which Northwestern is a reach, not kids who would be otherwise applying to Harvard, Princeton etc... I'm not super duper worried about the increase, I'm just more worried about the whole admissions process and how random it is sometimes.

Oh and if you ask me, tomorrow sound great for a release date. Realistically, though, anything before the 15th will make me happy

that's not necessarily true. given the increase in the average SAT score, it would seem as though the applicant pool is simultaneously increasing and becoming more competitive.

nealemery,

it's the opposite and sidjenks is correct.

I read that NU has been sharing more and more applicants with Ivies. This provides a simple explanation why the yield of the past two years have been the lowest in NU's history, even though the average SAT went up and the number of applicants soared.

As NU engaged more cross-admit battles with the Ivies, they did a poor job to predict the yield and under-enrolled by a lot in the last couple years.

nealemery might be right, I, for one know that northwestern is a huge reach with my class rank as low as it is (top 20%), but I applied early anyways.

under enrolling = good :D

Under-enrolling... That could help ED applicants a ton.

i applied early too. fingers crossed.....we've got a week or less!

I agree that in general there are more competitive applicants. However, I am saying that more likely than not, the students who also are considering the Ivies etc are probably not applying early and early is looking like the only option for many students for which NU is a reach. I have nothing to back this up, just a possible trend

I was referring to RD. I guess I misunderstood you.

~1 week left!

This past week has been the slowest week of my life. Hahaha.

I was beginning to worry that my letter was sent to the wrong house and they didn't think it was worth anything so they threw it out. At least I know that most people haven't heard.
So, I'm just a little confused. We can actually check for an admission decision on the webpage with the password NU gave us? And that gets posted around the same time the letters get mailed?

Also, I just wanted to point out that reading this thread has given me that happy/sick feeling in my stomach. You know the one. The "I'm-So-Excited-I-Think-I-Might-Lose-My-Morning-Latte" feeling. I just can't wait to find out! I hope I made it.

Just frequent this forum and you'll know when early decision comes out. There will literally be an explosion of posts when ED comes out, you won't miss it, I promise.

To check status,
https://ugadm.northwestern.edu/application/

You need your a) E-mail and b) password.

Decisions will show up there. Estimated dates for releases have been early of next week (looking at past years), so keep your fingers crossed!

Thank you!

I thought that was how it worked, but I wasn't sure. And haha, I'll bet everyone on here will log in almost immediately after finding out!

Well, thanks again. Best of luck to everyone here.

Hahaha. You can tell when all the decisions come out (I'm guessing all the other colleges will release around the same time) by when the CC server crashes ;)

Ya, if all of a sudden it says that CC is down right now due to high volume. Hurry up and get on NU's website before that one also crashes lol.

My question to everyone that got in last year. When you logged in to see your decision, do you click the link on "verify which materials we recieved" and it comes in on the bottom or will it just show up on the cover letter when you log in, or will a separate button come up saying something like "see admission decision"?

Ugh, that was awful last year. I was fast enough on the draw that the only college I had to wait for was Cornell (this was the RD round), but it was absurd that schools of that calibur couldn't keep their sites up.

if you think northwesterns gonna be bad when ED comes out, imagine yale :x

is it bad that i kind of don't want to post if i got in or not...? especially if i don't? i liked chatting and commiserating about admission and about WHEN THESE DECISIONS WILL BE POSTED, AHHHH, but i don't know if i want to reveal my bad news when i ultimately get it. or my good news, if i got that, but i won't. but does that make sense?

also, im trying to figure out if i'm wrong, but weren't the two years before last year posted on saturdays??

I'm going to post my decision no matter what, since it helps people applying next year. I definitely used the decision threads from last year to judge whether or not I even had a chance, therefore I'm going to try and help people applying during the next admissions cycle.

Oh, and:
Year 2004-2005 ... 12/11 ('09) --> Saturday
Year 2005-2006 ... 12/10 ('10) --> Saturday
Year 2006-2007 ... 12/13 ('11) --> Wednesday

I second ten96lt's question about how the decision popped up online. Was there an extra link to click on or do you see it right away when you log on? =/
