Northwestern Early Decision Release Date

I'm sure they're done reviewing, except for maybe a few borderline applicants. By the end of this week, they'll probably be packaging all the letters and stuff and sending it out. I know a lot of the other schools are pretty much finished by now (like UPenn has been done for a day or so supposedly).

i just read somewhere on this board that someones daughter checked the site and got a decision sometime after 5 or 6pm on 12/12 last year...why would they wait till saturday to post decisions they'd already mailed?

class of 2010 got a shirt, but it wasn't until the spring. this year every 2011 student got one from the admissions office (which i had to handstuff..ahem). but yeah, ED students last year kind of got shafted with that stupid poster.

good luck everyone!

I e-mailed the admissions office, and they told me that the decision will be posted online on the 15th and letters will be mailed out on the 15th. I don't know if they just say that... but after all people found out pretty early last year.

That's disheartening ... either

a) there were a lot of ED applicants this year so they can't release it early
b) they are just saying their official release date, they'll send it early anyways.

the 15th has always been the official release date for nothwestern and the last 3 yrs have gotten it early ... so i guess we can only hope for the best.

Again, good luck to all of us - Northwestern Class of 2012 Early Decision

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!!!!

My philosophy is to be optimistic regardless of the outcome (easier said than done, :-) )

But seriously, I wish everyone the best!

HAhaha I'll try to be optimistic!

Mann, the 15th feels incredibly far away... =[ I really hope they didn't have some 30% increase in early applicants, like Chicago did. Probably not, since NU is ED, but you never know!

i agree, the 15th might just be their stock answer in these crazy times, we may not end up waiting that long...at least i hope we don't!!!

i spend way too much time here. i think its stressing me out more. i'm going to stay away for a while to take my mind off these decisions, good luck to everyone i hope we all hear news soon and i hope it's all goooooood!!!!!!

Well, if it makes you feel any better, we had ~100% ED acceptance rate for CC last year. LOL

wow ... no pressure, lol.

i'm really confused about the whole online vs. mail with the decision letters. what would be the point of the online notification if they are sent by mail earlier? i've always thought it was they post it online the same time they send out the letters.. but i may be wrong. hopefully it comes out early next week!!

and at a college counseling meeting at my school today they said that northwestern went up 30%, but i really dont see how that's possible. maybe it was mixed up with u chicago or something.. i hope

Ahaha. That's great. Up 30%. faints I don't think they got it mixed up with Chicago, considering how Chicago's went up 45%...

Early applications way up at U. of C. -- chicagotribune.com

Gosh Harvard and Princeton just had to get rid of their early admissions.

(Can anyone confirm that NU really had a 30% increase though?)

Wow. 100%. That's pretty positive. Are you sure about that? How could you know?
I think that NU is only saying that they are releasing it on the 15th. It gives them time to play with. If they ever gave an earlier date, then people would be calling them to complain why they haven't gotten it yet. I assumed they would post the decicions online at the same time as they mailed them, but perhaps they mail all of the decicions as they make them, and then only put it up online after they are finished with all of them.
I can say that I'm pretty nervous, but this site is becoming addicting. At least I can freak out here, because my friends have informed me that if they hear me talking about NU before I get my letter one more time, they will gag me. :)
In order for me to obsess less (and procrastinate on papers) I was looking at their dorms. You know, in case I do get in. And I am really interested in all of the residential colleges. Does anyone know any insider information about any of them? Like I said, just in case?

the article you cited gave you the answer you are looking for!!!!!!!

Early applications to Northwestern University, which has a binding admission program, are up nearly 17 percent, to 1,530.

Oh, REALLY? I didn't even read the article. I actually copied it off UChicago's forum, since everyone there was freaking out about the 45% increase. AHAHAHA. I suck.

Last year's increase was only 8%... Freshman Applications Soar to All-Time High, NewsCenter, Northwestern University

Anyhow, 17% increase is pretty significant :(

Yes, but at the end of the article they also mentioned that the accepted 8% more ED applicants than the previous year, which means that NU keeps up with the trend. Maybe they will accept 17% more applicants this year, so instead of 572 candidates, they will accept 669?

17 percent for a binding ED agreement is very notable.

I doubt they'll accept 669 =[ That seems like a LOT more people. Aahhhhhh, now I'm even more nervous.

17% boost in applicants ... thats encouraging
