please chance me!

With the ED you should be fine.

I see Northwestern being a reach for you. Your ACTs are decent, but your unweighted GPA and sub 10% rank is going to hurt (correct me if I’m mistaken, but your rank means that around 133 kids have a higher GPA than you do). I imagine ED might balance this out somewhat, but I wouldn’t get your hopes too high on Northwestern.

yeah that does mean quite a few people are ahead of me, but i did jump from the top 20% to top 13% so i did have a big improvement. i also go to one of the top high schools in the country, so that helps me out a little.
i’m also applying to ut, umichigan, bu, tufts, and tulane. how do my chances look for those schools?

I am sorry to be so blunt, but Bernard’s comment is absurd. Yes, it is true that you are not in the top 10% of your class. But to say a 3.79 unweighted will hurt you is ridiculous. And a 33 ACT is not decent, it is excellent. Good Lord, it is 99th percentile!

Telling you chances is a waste of time, frankly. Strange things happen in admissions every year. Should you get into UM, BU, Tufts, and Tulane? Sure, all those are at or below your stats for the average student. I guess money isn’t an issue for you, but at Tulane you would almost certainly get the “automatic” (means they consider you for it with the application) $25,000 schlolarship. You would also have a chance for the Deans Honor Scholarship (DHS) worth full tuition. This requires an additional application. Maybe if you got that your parents would put the money you saved aside for your future. Anyway, the main thing is you have a very good list of schools, and if you think you would be happy to go to any of them, then you are fine. You will get into most of them, if not all most likely.

My asian friend with lower ACT and lower GPA got in ED. You should be fine

Your course rigor is extremely easy, not going to lie. Is that really the most rigorous available?

Another silly comment. 15 Honors and AP courses (I am not counting 8th grade because the colleges won’t) out of 29 courses, 4 of those dance. I really don’t know where these people learn to read sometimes.

Opps, excuse me. I missed Honors World History in 10th grade sandwiched between those regular courses. 16 out of 25 “real” classes. I don’t think colleges expect there is AP Dance, lol. Congrats on an outstanding high school career, cooler1. Go to Tulane, lol. I would be proud to have you at my alma mater. Kidding. I mean I am sure I would be, but Northwestern is a really great school as well, and obviously more selective.

Yes, you have a chance, but it’s not a slam-dunk. A great essay could make you or break you. If you can, talk about your up-trending grades and why your most recent grades truly reflect your ability and determination: was there some aha! moment in the last year or two which made you more determined, was there some earlier handicap that you needed to first overcome to be able to focus more on your academics?

thanks everyone for your input!

yeah, i was diagnosed with a very serious disease in the middle of my eighth grade year, so i was adjusting until about mid freshman year. i am most definitely writing an essay about that so hopefully colleges will take that into consideration
