Got my Northwestern acceptance.. but nothing about HPME. Does anybody know if these decisions will come in the mail with the official NU acceptance? Or maybe through email in a few days?

I'm a current student in the program. I received my acceptance last year a few days after my NU acceptance. If I recall correctly, it was a letter in the mail.

JoePa comes to Evanston on Halloween this year. Will NU students dress up in JoePa masks? (Or will they wear Fitz masks?)

Got into NWU but not heard from HPME. Has anyone heard from HPME? The website only says April but no date!!

I got in to HPME; email dated around 10 am.

Congrats on your admission! I haven't received any emails yet. Does this mean that I didn't make it in?

congrats, omg. so did I. where are you from?

I guess people who did not get it were not accepted?

The admissions office told me that decisions have been mailed (by post) on Monday. THey also confirmed that no emails are being sent to anyone! So howcome some have got emails for acceptance while others have not heard anything? Has anyone rec'd the post?

How many hours of hospital volunteer required in order to get in any 7 years med program?

Please respond!

Hey Chlorine21, getting into HPME isn’t about grades, scores, etc. True, everyone who applies for the program has good grades, but what really matters is if you are passionate enough and mature enough to convince the admissions people that you absolutely want to pursue a career in medicine. With that in mind, your scores and activities are probably good enough to qualify you for an application, but beyond that, what really matters is your ability to convince the people at Feinberg that you will succeed in med school and that medicine is truly what you want to do. Also, you have to convince the admissions board that you will take full advantage of what the undergraduate HPME program has to offer. They want students who will pursue interests that other premed students wouldn’t normally be able to pursue.

Again, I must repeat that grades and scores are only the first step in getting admitted into the program.

I have a similar question. Our S had 4.0 GPA, 1st in the class of 157, SATI 2380, SATII: 800/800 Chemistry, 800/800 Biology, 800/800 Math, 760/800 Literature, 5 in all AP exams., more than 100 hours of Hospital Volunteer, Math Club, Science Bowl (with member of national team), Knowledge Bowl, Junior Statesman of America (several best speaker awards), National Merit Scholar, got into 2 other BA/MD programs, but not in HPME this year.

What did he miss?.

It will be very helpful if someone can provide some feedback. The second S is progressing on the same path and perhaps, we can take care of any deficiency now than repenting after 2 years.

Thanks a lot.

Dear iitbsd,

Your S has impressive scores and extracurricular activities. However, like I told Chlorine21, good grades and activities only carry you so far in the HPME application. Most applicants that are considered have excellent statistics, but what gets people into the program is a clear passion for medicine. The HPME program looks for chances to invest in future medical students and offer them opportunities that other premeds wouldn’t normally have. With that said, your son may not have convinced the admissions panel that he is 100% certain that he wants to pursue a career in medicine. Looking at your son’s grades and scores, however, I have no doubt that he will be successful wherever he goes and that he will eventually find his way to medical school if that is what he really wants!

beside score as you mention, I am still not clear how many hours hospital volunteering is significant? I belive personal essay make difference.
