Has anyone had a high school student attend Northwestern University's National High School Institute summer Film and Video program? What was the experience like? Was it worth the money? The student who is considering attending has not yet had much film and video experience, but is very interested in the area. Any insight you can provide would be appreciated!

I don’t know about this particular program but if you can swing it financially these summer programs are a great introduction to college in general and a fantastic way to scope out particular schools. Plus connections, one poster here mentioned at one time meeting someone in admissions/administration through a summer program and thinking that was partly helpful when they received a very high merit award. Caught the eye of someone while there.

Also if a hs student isn’t sure about film and video this would be a great way to test the water in a more advanced setting. Much better than going into a directed course at 18 and finding out it’s not really to your liking.
