I was accepted into the NYU Tisch Summer High School film program and am waiting to hear back from Northwestern’s NHSI film production program. I was wondering if anyone has had experience in one or both of these programs or knows anyone with experience and could tell me about what they learned or the benefits of going to either program. I know the main difference between the two is definitely the price since NYU is significantly more expensive, but does this increase my likelihood of actually getting into NYU? Are there any significant benefits to either program that will help in the college process or even just expand my knowledge of filmmaking? Thanks so much for your help.
My daughter attended NHSI film at Northwestern. It was a fantastic experience, very intensive, but it certainly isn’t a guarantee of admission to Northwestern film. Of all the kids she met there who applied to Northwestern, none were admitted. Have no idea what their apps looked like, but she was rejected RD though she certainly had the GPA and test scores needed. It’s a major with very few available spots at an elite and highly selective university, so admission is a bit of a crap shoot.
Not sure about NYU summer program leading to admission, but what I can find online suggests they at least admit three to four times as many film students as Northwestern.
As a follow-up, my daughter was admitted to NYU Tisch for film, as were a large number of her fellow NHSI film campers from Northwestern.
I am just applying for Tisch Summer high school film workshop. I want to know that what level of GPA they need? Are they very strict on admitting? Is it really hard to get in? My GPA is 3.2, but I haven’t done a lot of volunteering work.
