Northwestern opportunities v UT opportunities

Hey guys, im from Texas and have been accepted to both schools. If i go to NU i will major BME and if i go to UT it will be ChemE. Ultimately i want to go to med school. I plan on keeping my gpa up and doing well on the mcat etc etc. I really like UT however i dont want to get stuck in Texas. this seems to happen to a lot of ppl who go there, Northwestern is a great school but some things about UT are holding me back from picking it.

What do you guys think. Is it hard to get into a top 25 (out of texas) med school from UT as compared to NU? Remember grades and mcat are a nonissue.

Absolutely not! UT is academically recolonized and with a good GPA and MCAT score you are definitely fine. And you don’t get “stuck in Texas”. A lot of people end up staying because they like it so much.

Personally, I’m no Chicago fan. The weather sucks. Austin is a great city. The top 3 cities in the United States to start a career as of 2009 is Houston, Dallas, & Austin. So Texas, especially during this economically challenged time, is a great place to be.

Also, UT is the epitome of “college life”.

I grew up in Austin. I LOVED my six years at UT (BS and MS in structural engineering). I ended up in Maine, because I don’t like hot weather. Even up here, people have been impressed with my degree and skill level. I will encourage all three of my kids to go to UT, if they can get in!
