Why should I go to UT instead of Northwestern University?

Sell me UT basically over a top 15 private university.

cant tell you why, Northwestern is a great school. you should visit both and figure out which one you feel like you would be better off going to. several people have chose other schools over UT because they didnt feel like UT wanted them their. but different people experience different things, either way both or good schools

go to northwestern. Better school. Better national reputation. Chicago is freezing though.

Don’t not go to Northwestern

well if Northwestern is ranked higher, then theirs on argument

it depends on the major/weather prefs/social expectations, if you want to just carry around a top 15 rank be my guest and go to NW then.

Northwestern. I love UT, but I would not pass up NW unless there are financial problems.

Chicago vs Austin…that’s why.

Which side are you trying to argue with that? That could be easily taken either way.

oh wow I’m in the same boat. Northwestern or UT. haha that’s so ironic. :D

My uncle used to live in Chicago and he said he would have stayed if the weather wasn’t so terrible. Which kind of puts me off. Plus costs. But it just depends on what you like I guess. :]

Would cost be an issue? Saving ~30k/year would be serve you much better, especially if you were to plan on going to grad school. If cost is not an issue, the location of Chicago vs. Austin might be if you like or don’t like cold weather. But if you don’t care and money is not an issue, I don’t see why you wouldn’t pick Northwestern.

Invisibleman,
I went to Northwestern and UT and enjoyed both. I had to leave NU due to my mom’s illness and went to UT to be closer to home and graduated from there. Now I have a daughter at UT. She was also accepted at Northwestern, but for a family with two incomes and an EFC of about 30,000, UT was much more affordable. And my daughter graduated in 2008 just at the time the entire economy was crashing. The schools are as different as night and day, but at both places you will find friendly, intelligent people and professors who will challenge you. If you are a football fan, don’t underestimate the joy that going to a school with a great football program will bring you. If you got into NU, you probably got into honors at UT. If money is no object, I would choose NU. If you plan graduate studies, you might want to save some money on undergraduate school and choose UT. Either way you go, they’re both great places.

Northwestern is a terrific school, no doubt about that. But there are programs at UT that NW would have a hard time improving upon, so I would say that if you know what you want to do, find out who offers the better program and choose the school based on that. For many HS seniors, though, they don’t know what they want to do or they get involved in it only to change their mind and then change their major.

Just a thought.

I’ll tell you what they told us at a campus visit during SB junior year (my apologies if someone already posted this): I’m not here to sell you on UT. If you feel you need to be sold, then you don’t belong here.

if your doing engineering, UT would be better

I’m in the same boat… UT Business Honors Program or Northwestern with 23k Financial Aid? (Not 100% sure I want to do Business)
AHHHH!
