Daughter trying to decide between the two, loves them both. Could use some additional information, insights from anyone to try to break the stalemate. She's in McCormick at NU. She loves the whole brain, engineering first program there. Concerned about the reputed difficulty of Orgo at NU. Didn't get to see any engineering classes or anything about engineering during her visit to ND, so concerned about that program. Prefers ND campus, and people. Anyone? Please?

Northwestern has the reputation. University of Notre Dame isn’t that known for engineering. Is she sure about the major ? I feel like NU will be the better choice here.

ND has ChemE, but no Co-op My D is an NU ChemE /co-op student of the year runner up alum, and son is currently a ChemE.

D took Orgo as Soph, son took it as a frosh, with sophmore standing. I warned him not to do it, but kids, they gonna do what they want to do. So he got an A. D got B’s. Both happy.

My wife and I visited ND - D played vs. ND Rugby there, and we loved the campus, but son would not visit- he wanted co-op. Plus, Evanston > South Bend. Chicago >>>South Bend. Plus wierd dorm rules at ND he said. PM me if you have more questions.

Northwestern has a better engineering program.

I personally think Northwestern is the better school

Northwestern. ND has decent business and liberal arts programs but it lacks in the hard sciences.

“Chicago >>>South Bend”

Understatement of the year!

Great responses, thank you. How about pre-med advising between the two?

Northwestern is the better school. Has a better academic reputation.

Not sure much difference in academics but ND campus looks better imo tha NU’s. ND has stonger alumni network maybe even in Chicago. Both great schools but can’t beat ND’s school spirit and the best fight/victory song.

While orgo at NU has the reputation, pursuing chemE as a premed is going to be tough anywhere you go. The following is from ND website:

I was admitted to both Northwestern and ND for the pre-med track and I selected ND.
