Northwestern Engineering vs. Notre Dame Engineering

I have to make the decision between the two by November 7th because of a scholarships program where I have to rank one higher than the other, and will be bound to enroll in whichever one of the two that I rank higher (this is, of course, assuming that I get in to both)
Acceptance aside, I am having a ridiculously hard time trying to decide which school would be a better fit for me.
I would love the opportunity to explore my Catholic background more in depth, but it is not a priority.
Being close to Chicago would be nice, whereas South Bend is.... South Bend, and I want to have a social life.
I want to be challenged academically, which I know will not be a problem at either school.
The co-op program at NU is a big deal for me, but I love the "family" aspect of ND.
I am really worried about being able to find a job after college, but I don't know how either school would affect that differently.
In the long run, which is a better school for engineering? If it is Northwestern, I do not know if I will be happy there as I have not yet visited and probably won't have the opportunity to before November 7th.
Any and all advice/help is endlessly appreciated.

Most rankings, etc. conclude that both NU and ND are excellent schools. However, NU is generally considered the better of the two academically.

Other than that, it comes down to intangibles (which you’ve listed).

Bottom line – I think that if the intangibles clearly favor ND, it’s an acceptable choice. If not, go to the better school, NU.

^^I agree. NU > ND, but if you like ND better, that’s what should count.
Frankly, I would try hard to visit NU. You just might love it.
