Northwestern RD Class of 2022 Discussion Thread

I got the email today also. Can anybody shed some light on what acceptance rates for the program look like? Thanks

Can you share what’s in the email?

For an applicant to science program who didn’t get the email, is it a bad sign? or just further proof that all emails from Northwestern got lost somehow?

Pretty sure it went to all math science applications:

“I am the Program Director of the Integrated Science Program (ISP) at Northwestern University (NU). I understand that you may be interested in studying science and mathematics at Northwestern so I am writing to encourage you to consider applying to our unique program.” etc

I got this email, and I applied as a humanities major… lol

Oh man, son asked AO about the ISP invite, and found out that Northwestern has sent many emails to him but all bounced back, including the email to setup interview. The AO re-sent the ISP invite, but it’s too late for interview …

For those of you who never received the interview request, please check with AO. You may have the same bouncing email issue.

Does the ISP email indicate that Northwestern likes us or something? Or does it just go to everyone?

@RDJfan28 I believe everyone.

Okay, thank you

Yep, everyone. So if you don’t have it in your mailbox, it’s a good indication that your email server is rejecting emails from NU admissions.

Yikes, I didn’t get it, but I’ve gotten their other emails like the ones that said my application was complete. Is it worth calling/emailing the AO about? I applied to SESP and I use Gmail if that makes a difference.

My son got the “application complete” email too, but that’s the last email he ever got from NU and it’s more than a month ago. He emailed AO yesterday and AO immediately replied, saying “most of our emails to you have been bounced back, including interview invite and the ISP invite. If you want to change to a different email, …” I’m surprised that they didn’t try other contact channels when emails bounced back. But, yeah, contact them right now and see what you have missed. :frowning:

My stats are almost the same as yours and I’m a Nigerian American too!!

Responding to the information regarding bounced emails. Informational emails (such as the ISP email referenced) are not sent to every applicant so if you have not received a particular email, is not an indication that your emails are bouncing. Northwestern does follow up with applicants who have repeated bounced emails regarding their application via a variety of communication methods - for example, emails to an alternate email if provided and to high school counselors. We see very, very few email bounces.

As far as pointers for applicants - 1. make sure your email acct is “cleaned out” so you can receive messages as a significant percentage of bounces are to accts where the storage is full and unable to receive messages. 2. if you are using a school email address, we do see bounces to school accts as the high school email software sees the emails as spam. Most emails are sent from ug-admission@northwestern.edu, so you can talk to your school about ensuring emails from that account/email are considered “safe”.

My school sent out my mid year report earlier this week and I have not seen a change in my portal showing that Northwestern has received the myr. Should I call admissions to make sure they have received it, or is it normal for the myr to not appear on the application portal?

@hurley1 My D’s doesn’t show any update on the Northwestern portal either, but it was downloaded per the common app, so I’m assuming they have it!

What was the ISP email? I didn’t get it but applied to a STEM major? The NU Staff email says they don’t send emails to all applicants so is this a bad sign for me?

My son hasn’t taken the SAT that ISP requires or AP. Chem. He will be majoring in engineering.
How do they choose who to send the ISP. Info to? My husband and son are driving up to visit tomorrow. He already attended a in town presentation in the fall.

When will the RD decision come out?

I believe RD is late March, no later than April 1.

@wings17 last year it was March 17th, so my guess is March 16th this year
