What is the work life balance for Econ majors?
How often do Northwestern students go to Chicago for fun(Basketball and Football games, Concerts, Clubs)? Do students do it weekly, bi weekly, monthly?
What is it like being an international student at Northwestern?
- I don't think Econ major is easy anywhere. NU has a fair share of Nobel prize laureates, so you should expect to work hard (or be worked hard). 2. Students often go to Chicago 2 to 3x a month. Local trains take you to downtown Chicago in about 30 minutes, so it's really popular to go to Bulls or White Sox games, hit a jazz bar or nice restaurant, etc. on the weekends. 3. Nobody would really look at you as an international student unless you want them to - the student body is diverse enough, and if you speak English with reasonable fluency and stay reasonably competitive in terms of academics, you will be able to fit in easily. I suggest that you take a look at the stats of ethnicity/demographics from the website!
I can’t comment on Economics at NU (other than to say that many very smart, motivated, and accomplished kids we know were not admitted) but I have known the university for 20 years, sailing and windsurfing from their beach, meeting many students there, and enjoying the town of Evanston.
The very pretty little town may be one of the reasons why some students don’t go to Chicago that often, although the logistics are simple - there’s also a shuttle bus between the Evanston and the Chicago campuses. For example, my very favorite jazz club (The Space) is only a mile from the campus, and some of my favorite restaurants are even closer, and the lakefront is gorgeous when not too cold.
