Does anyone know how selective the Dual Degree program of Communication and Engineering is?
Today is the application deadline. Does anyone know when the earliest they start to release decisions is?
probably around mid to late april
Hey, can you guys chance me? (I’ll happily return the favor)
College: top 25 LAC (according to Forbes), but top 40 according to U.S. News
Prospective Sophomore
Major: Economics
GPA: 3.9
ECs: Investment Club, Men’s Club Rugby, Alternative theater troupe, Social Business Venture Fund
ACT: 32
HS: 3.15
^Few Notes:
- I went to a nationally-ranked private school with a grade deflation problem (average Northwestern admitted GPA from my high school was something like a 3.6; plus, I was admitted to my current college ED which has an average enrolled student ACT of 30 and median GPA of 3.6)
- I took a bunch of honors courses (that weren’t weighted, unfortunately)
- My grades dropped in high school from freshman year to sophomore year, but they’ve been steadily rising since then, with a big jump my first semester of college
Recs: very solid, professors I asked seemed genuinely saddened by my news and offered to talk to me if I wanted (got As in both their classes and participated a lot).
Essays: superb, went through a number of drafts on each of them and more or less poured my soul into the words
Apologies for the really long post

Taking Honors Classes in College
Please Help and give my feedback of my likelihood of getting into NU this fall.
Thank you! Best of Luck to all
Hello all! I am new to cc and applying to a few schools. I figure I might as well post my stats and would love some honest feedback, no matter how harsh. I do not want to have any regrets when applying to schools. So, I am applying to schools that I know are a big reach.
Objective
HS GPA 3.0 – poor, I know:( I explain why in personal statement
MI Community College – 3.84 ( not including Mid-Term report, which is a 4.0)
Large upward trend
Fall 2015 – 3.668 (A- in Introductory french 1, but A in Intermediate 1 and A in IM 2 on MD report)
Winter 2016 – 3.82 (A- in introductory french 2, but A later in Intermediate 1 and A in IM 2 on MD report)
Summer 2016 – 4.0
Fall 2016 – 4.0
Winter 2016 – 4.0 on mid-term report
I have All A’s except for 3 A- and a B- in Fall 2015 in honors comp-1
I received an A in english comp-2.
My course load is very rigorous. It is as hard as it gets for a CC. Several honors courses
A’s in honors micro, honors gov, intermediate french 1, statistics, macro, and several more. I will graduate with an Associate of Arts this semester with honors.
Personal Statement
I poured my heart into it. In hs, both my parents lost their jobs, my home was foreclosed, we relied on others for housing, my family went on food stamps, and I worked at McDonald’s to support my family. I explained how this resulted in my fascination for all things related to government and as a result, wanting to major in poli sci with the intention of becoming a lawyer. I also explained how a higher education will allow me to support my mom. I think it explains my life, motives, and why I am doing what I am doing. TBH very proud of it. Overall 9.5/10 IMO
Supps
Very NU specific.
LOR-- I have three. One from French, Econ, and head of honors program and experiential learning. I believe they are all excellent.
EC’s – I will only list college.
Work at McDonald’s for several hours a week
Elected president of leadership club.
VP of an academic club
Volunteer work with Dementia Patients
Very involved in my chabad. I’m very active in the Jewish Community
Leader of Jewish youth group
Research this summer at U of M–Ann Arbor
Again, I realize this is not a chance me thread, but would love to interact with all of you about the transfer process.
My brother was offered admission a few days ago (he is a senior in hs). I am not sure if this is an advantage or vice versa.
@Goingforclacking you seem like a great candidate. By the way, did anyone get an email saying their application is complete yet?
yes i got the email @SeinfeldFan1
@SeinfeldFan1 I did as well
When did you guys get the email saying your application is complete? I sent in all my materials way back and still have not received a confirmation email regarding my application.
@ConnorGrant19 I got it on March 15
@ConnorGrant19 @SeinfeldFan1 I got the email on March 15th as well. Submitted late February.
Don’t have much hope, but you know, what Gretzky said.
Thanks for all your replies! About 11.5% of transfers were admitted last year, so stay optimistic @Tokarev! I hope we both get in.
Did you guys send the Final High School Report from the Common App? I did not, because it didn’t say it was required. I wonder if that is why my application is not yet completed.
@ConnorGrant19 I did not either, and my app is complete, so I don’t think that’s a factor.
Okay i didn’t think so either. I recently gave admissions an email, and I will see what they say when they respond.
Please chance me!
Current international Freshman, applying for Asian Language& Culture and Asian Studies program
No financial aid needed
Current University: Grinnell College
Current GPA: 3.9 (Straight A mid-term report)
ACT: 32
High school GPA: 3.9 Unweighted (Studied in American HS)

- Taking as many Asia-related courses as I can
- Recs and essays should also be good; 2 recs written by Asia-related courses’ professors
@SunZhaoyu you sound like a great guy and i wish you the best of luck, but i (and i think most people in this thread) am in no way qualified to give you an answer that would be any better than flipping a coin.
if it’s just for fun though, your stats really couldn’t be that much better than what they are, and you seem passionate about what you do. i hope the admissions officers see that!
I got the email that my application was complete today. Do you guys know if when the application is complete has any correlation to when we hear back?
last year it didn’t seem to have any whatsoever @ConnorGrant19
