Northwestern University Fall 2022 Transfer Thread

Hello Everyone, I am applying as a transfer to Northwestern University. I did not see a thread for Fall 2022 transferring, so I thought I’d create one; my stats are down below.

I thought I’d provide more info about the Northwestern transfer process since many people are probably going to be asking some of these questions.

  • Generally, decisions start to come out the last week of April. Last year, according to previous threads, the first round of decisions were released on Friday, April 23. Batches of decisions were then released every two weeks after that date.

  • Applying early, according to multiple different sources does not necessarily guarantee that your decision will come earlier. Northwestern does NOT review applications in the order that they are received. This was confirmed via an email directly to the admissions office.

  • Admissions rates for transfers have historically been around 15%.

Thank you for making this! I thought I’d add my info and see where it goes. Good luck to you and everyone else applying!!

Transferring as: Sophomore

Current College: Started the year at a private LAC in California, now finishing at a local CC in Montana (financial and personal reasons)

College GPA: 4.0

Major: Psychology

Credits Earned: 22

Credits In Progress: 12

High School GPA: 2.9 (yeah, I know…physical and mental health issues freshman year. But I had a significant upward trend, so hopefully that helps a little bit!)

Did not report ACT/SAT (thanks, Covid!)

ECs:

  • Currently working on a project researching the mental health disparities between public and private prisons (I want to eventually be a criminal psychologist, which I discussed in my app.)
  • Wrote three novels throughout high school/college
  • Interned for a well-known local LGBTQ/Racial equality organization
  • Volunteered at a medical hospital in a remote town in Northern India
  • Working since 2019, currently working two paid jobs for the same organization.

Awards/Honors:
Dean’s list @ previous LAC, expecting it again for current semester.

Hooks: Legacy, maybe geographic diversity? (According to a map on CollegeFactual, NU doesn’t have any current undergrads from Montana. Not a fantastic source, so the reliability of that is…dodgy at best!)

Essays: 9-10/10

LOR: IDK for sure, but I would say 8/10.

Again, best of luck to everyone!
