Northwestern vs. Boston College

I've been accepted to both.
Which should i choose? I'm a prospective business major. BC has a great business school (#14?), and NU doesnt have an undergrad business school. I'm leaning toward BC, but i dont know all about NU. What aspects of NU would change my mind?

If you are leaning toward BC because you think BC is stronger in business, then you are VERY wrong. First of all, #14 is very mediocre in a ranking that doesn't include most of the heavy weights (HYPMS, Duke, Northwestern, Chicago...etc). That's why undergrad b-school ranking is so misleading--all these obscure programs all of a sudden look much better because most top b-schools don't have undergrad programs. Secondly, I am very sure NU has better recruiting--in terms of number of top firms that actively interview on campus. NU is one of the most targeted schools for them. Northwestern's economics program is a top-10 program and you will be more marketable with an econ degree from NU than a business degree from BC. You will also have a chance to get into the certificate program from Kellogg School of Managment, one of the most known b-school in the world. Pick BC if you think it fits you better there but if you are talking solely about prestige and academic program, regardless if it's business related or not, I'd pick Northwestern without any doubt.

aaehmmmmm.... that's like a no-brainer

Unless you really love going to school in Boston (or there is a significant diff. in $$$) - why is this even an issue?

I got accepted at both BC and NWU as well and I am from NY so I am in a neutral financial situation in which I will be residing at either. In my point of view Chicago or Evanston is more expensive when it comes to how much you're going to pay for everything in total. If you're into business then Northwestern's Economics program is for you, it is top notch nationally and internationally. In my opinion NW kicks BC's ass big time in everything except finances to pay for college. Chicago is more expensive than Boston. But its definitely worth it to attend NWU.

Actually, Chicago has a lower cost of living than Boston and Evanston may or may not be cheaper than Chicago - depending on the Chicago neighborhood.

Btw, for those who decide to come to Northwestern, it's NU and not NWU or NW.

Yah, as a general rule of thumb, Midwestern locales cost less than Northeastern ones. And specificially, I don't know where you got that Boston was cheaper than Chicago, but Boston is only a half step below NYC, which is, if you're not familiar, INSANELY expensive.

honestly, i feel like people overall in this forum have very strong NU bias, or Midwest bias. how can anyone who is seriously interested in going into business EVEN CONSIDER picking BC over NU? NU for economics has a worldwide reputation of excellence, and business as a bachelors degree has a very shady reputation among many employers. The reputation should become even stronger when they start offering the Kellogg undergraduate Programm.I mean its KELLOGG, for christ's sakes!!!!! some people would kill to have a chance to get a degree from this school. I know for sure because I have someone in my close family who hires people for his business, which is based abroad, and an NU econ degree is not only nationally exteremely highly regarded, but pretty much among employers everywhere. so unless you really really really want to study business instead of econ for some reason, this is a ridiculously easy and almost insulting question considering the first-class caliber of the NU econ and business education.

I don't wanna come off harsh, I am just saying that if u don't have your mind completely and fully set on Boston or a business degree, and you want to work in business later on or get an MBA, then missing out on the oppotunity to go to school at Northwestern would be a huge, foolish mistake.

it absolute blows my mind too. I am from the East coast. It is almost distressing to see kids come up with posts, such as UVA vs Northwestern and say that UVA is a better school. There was even a mom who said UVA is more well known on the east coast. The last time I checked, Northwestern is one of the finest schools in the nation, with one of the strongest econ programs in the world. Business, law, and medical schools are always perennial top 25 schools with Kellogg always in the top 5. Perhaps I have more respect for NU since I chose it over some big powerhouse schools back in the day such as UChicago, Cornell, and St. Louis ("Wash U")

Good day

GO WITH KELLOGG, NU!!

it's absolutely the better program, academics wise.

NU vs BC? Why you guys still bothered to answer? Just ignore it. It's a joke and a mock of our intelligence
