Northwestern, Wash U, UVA, NYU, USC, UW

Hi, I got into Northwestern, Wash U (Olin), UVA, NYU (Stern), USC (Marshall), and my in-state school University of Washington (Foster). I'm planning on doing undergrad business wherever I go. Would it be advantageous in the long run to go to the best overall school (Northwestern) and major in economics/take a few grad school business courses, or would it be wiser to just go with an undergrad business school? Assume money isn't a concern (even though it is). I'm planning on doing some visits in a week or two, but any input could help me narrow my list. Thanks in advance.

Also, which of these business schools has the best "brand name?" UVA got ranked #1 by business week this year, but my brother (senior at Wharton) seems to think Olin would be a better option. Thoughts?

I agree with your brother Olin is a solid school and places well on the street. In my opinion it should be between Northwestern and Olin. I’d recommend Stern as well but personally i think those are your top 2 options. Good luck with your decision.

bump set spike

A lot of people can make a really solid argument for choosing NU, NYU-Stern and UVa-McIntire. Not sure about Olin, USC and the rest.

Take a look at where the top bulge bracket firms recruit talents – [Undergraduate Recruiting at Vault’s Top Six Consulting Firms: Vault Management and Strategy Consulting Career Information](http://www.vault.com/nr/newsmain.jsp?nr_page=3&ch_id=252&article_id=14364421&cat_id=1223)

another bump :frowning: last one

needhelp3 – what are your business aspirations?

-Take over the family business and join YPO?
-Start your own business?
-Work on Wall St?
-Work for a major consulting firm?
-Join a Big-4 accounting firm?
-Go into sales/marketing right out of undergrad?
-Finance department of a F500 company?
-BizDev at a cutting edge web company?
-Work 2 years, then go to Law School or MBA School?

Do you want to settle down in Chicago, St. Louis, Seattle, Atlanta, NYC, LA?

If you can flesh that out a little, you might get some specific advice.

I have nieces graduating this year from NU (starting July at Goldman’s Chicago office), and USC Marshall (not sure yet, thinking about advertising… worked at a hedge fund 2 years ago and didn’t much like it).

RML – I’ve never heard of the top Consulting firms referred to as “Bulge Bracket”. Back in my days of looking at such things, that term referred to Salomon, CS First Boston, Bear Stearns, and a few other global investment banks.

If you’re sure you want to major in business I’d pick UVA - McIntire
Its definitely one of the best business schools in the country and its cheaper than the others in your list too

I think Dunnin LA makes a good points. If you have some idea of what aspect of business you want to get into, it can make a real difference in your decision making. I’ve got one that graduated from UW in accting. Big 4 are all over that, and you probably don’t need to go OOS/spend $$ when Big 4 are everywhere. Another
D is graduating from UVa this year - finance. For the most part, recruited by employers based on east coast (with slight exception) to work on east coast. If you do very well where ever you go, you can probably make things happen, but knowing your aspirations can uncomplicate things. Forget rankings…just do well.
