How is Northwestern's reputation internationally? (The rankings aren't 100% great sources.)

How is Northwestern's reputation internationally? (The rankings aren't 100% great sources.)

In Korea, Northwestern is well known among students who attend top-notch, private, affluent, or International schools and parents who are crazy about private American colleges/universities. I mean, there are certain people outside of those groups that probably know about Northwestern University, but on average, the wealthy and studious know about the school. I’m not sure about its reputation in other parts of the world.

Yeah, there are quite a few international students from Korea. More than I had expected at least. There aren’t as many students from other parts of Asia though.

When I visited this summer, there was an international student visiting. If that tells you anything. They were from Europe and the dad seemed very excited that his son was going to that school (already accepted).

I know from personal experience, it is very highly regarded in Japan.

agreed with yummymango about Korea. Most people in Korea really only know of the Ivies and UC Berkeley, UCLA, and UCSD; then a handful of liberal arts colleges. NU definitely is lesser known, but I think it’s beginning to change a little. I’m not sure about other countries…

In Hong Kong, it’s fairly well-known among the affluent and educated, especially those in the business/finance field. The university that’s known for business there has a joint EMBA program with Kellogg and it’s been ranked #1 in the world for quite a while. The #1 ranking has generated some buzz.

Here in India, most of the people know it.
For those who don’t, the Kellogg name rings a bell, which in turn commands a lot of respect for NU.
Oh and here NU alums (grads and undergrads alike) network with alums from the Ivies, Stanford and UChicago. So you get to build extremely good connections.

Yeah, the Kellogg Business really does trigger it off for people. Many times people stare blankly when I say NU. Then I say Kellogg Business school is part of it and people get it.
