Not accepted this year -- trying again?

I wasn't accepted to the school of my dreams this year, which was Exeter. However, next year I'm a junior, and I'm not sure if it's worth it to try again, because that would mean that I would only spend 1 year at Exeter, or if I decide, at any other school I apply to.
Is it worth it to apply again, if I would only spend 1 year at the school?

You can apply as a repeat sophomore. Lots of students do it for the social reasons (you get to stay at the school for 3 years, instead of just 2).

Exeter accepts some students for a single year, but they are usually (although not always, by any means) recruited varsity athletes, and often post-graduates. They accept a number of repeat juniors similarly. You should seriously question the value of repeating a year if you are a good student, and especially if you are among the older students in your grade already. Do you want to be approaching your twentieth birthday when you start college? If you are seriously interested in applying to boarding school, consider casting a wider net. Many schools accept just one or two one-year seniors. You are much likelier to get in somewhere if you apply to many schools than if you pin all your hopes on a school that has already rejected you, and at which there will be fewer openings for your grade next year than there were this year.
