Not Doing NHS Hours

Hello everyone. I was wondering what a college that already accepted me would do if I did not do any Service hours for NHS (25 required) yet i put that I was a member (which i am) on my application. I have heard that I just do not get the tassle for my graduation hat. Would the college deny me admission? would they even care?

It probably won’t be a big deal. NHS doesn’t mean a whole lot in admissions.

Thanks,
Anyone else have any opinions?

I’m on NHS board at my school, and unless you were already on probation, the national NHS rules state that you can’t be kicked out. But even if you were, #1: there is a slim to none chance that your colleges find out and #2: a slim chance they even care. Don’t worry :)

^Not sure what he’s talking about, but we immediately kick anyone out who didn’t turn in hours…

Still, there is no way your colleges will ever find out.

Is there any particular reason why you can’t fit those hours into your schedule? If so, why don’t you pop by the advisors office and see what you can work out?

I’m on the NHS board at my school too and you’ll be put on “probation”, but since you’re graduation I’m pretty sure you just won’t get your tassle. Truthfully, I don’t think colleges really care though.

@ momo, its not that I can’t fit the hours, its just that I find NHS to be a joke and a waste of time.

You find a group that encourages volunteering to be a joke and waste of time…? That’s… mature…

Not really… at my school all the volunteering involves helping with trivial tasks at school, not helping underprivileged children (my school is predominately filled with extremely well off groups of people).

It’s unlikely to matter for college, but you knew the expectations going in–why did you join if you weren’t going to complete the requirements?

If you don’t like the volunteer services offered, can’t you persuade the NHS officers and advisors to pick some with some importance in them or volunteer on your own?
