Not doing so well

I'm a freshman and I just finished up the year. I'm a psych and pre-med student planning to go to medical school.
First, semester I had a gpa of 3.74, but I took psych, history, english, theology, and discover ny- all are core classes, no science classes
Unfortunately, I got a "B-" in psychology which gave me the 3.74.

Spring semester, I took biostatistics and biology and ended up getting a "C" in both classes.
The stats class is 4 credits and it really hurt me.
I have not received all my final grades yet, but the gpa for this semester is like a 2.3 or something.
Should I retake those classes? Would it improve my chances of getting into medical school? Do I still have a chance at med school?
I also haven't gotten involved in anything, what are some things I should do?

Thanks

it’s your first year, which means you have 2 more years to prove to medical schools that you can take a rigorous courseload and succeed. you definitely still have a chance. make sure you have an upward trend because then you can even market this as a positive trait. from my understanding, you shouldn’t retake Cs. Cs are not good but they won’t kill your chances to medical school. now, if you continually gets Cs for the rest of college, then that’s a different story. also, make sure you start getting involved in extracurriculars that interest you as soon as possible. keep your head up. good luck.

Yeah a few C’s won’t kill you (and you shouldn’t retake them unless they were C-'s), and you’ll get a bit of a pass since its your freshman year. But now you just have that much more to prove in the upcoming two years.

I wouldn’t even retake for C-'s.

^ well if it’s a pre-req class, you have to

Icarus, I completely missed that angle! I bet you’re 100% right on this one. My apologies.

thanks everyone
you guys really helped
