Pre-Med, messed up freshman year

I am just ending my freshman year and I really feel like I messed up. I got all As and Bs in other subjects besides a C+ in gen chem 1, and a C+ in gen bio. For some reasons those general classes kill me. I spend all night studying for these classes but the professors are so unhelpful and maybe I just can't get the material through my skull. The classes are hard to focus in as they are usually around 300-500 people per class. And, for some reason these professors for the biggest classes are always the ones who do not lecture or explain material as well. Still, it is mostly my fault that I've done this badly. First semester I got a 3.1 but I haven't gotten my GPA for this semester. I'm thinking it'll be a 3.5/3.6 since I got an A in my other 3 classes besides bio. My goal is to end up at med school but these general classes, and these Cs are very discouraging. Is this out of the ordinary to happen? I'm hoping the course material gets more interesting since I'm done with general classes now. Should I give up on this med-school career path?

oh I also hear you have to have a 3.5 or over to get into med-school right (as well as a good MCAT score too). I’m already building my ECs. I’m already on a board of a very active student organization on campus, I also have an on-campus job, I plan on getting involved in greek life in the fall: this will help me with volunteer options. I also I’m thinking of getting a summer internship/research during my sophomore year since I am too busy taking pre-req classes over this summer.

You’re going to want to retake those classes you got Cs in. You also want as many As as possible because med school is so competitive. I wouldn’t give up on it yet, but if you keep making Cs, then you might want to reconsider.

venture over to the pre-med section; we have lots of information there for you to check out before posting other Qs. The above advice given is bad - retaking Cs is a waste of time and a lose-lose scenario. The Cs do not go away regardless of what grade you get the second time around. The lose-lose scenario is because anything less than an A your 2nd time around is horrible and an A your 2nd time around isn’t even that impressive. Instead you need to identify what went wrong and fix it as you attempt to dilute those Cs with As in other science classes.

I heard Burger King was hiring.
