Hi, this is my first time posting on here and I just finished up my first semester at a public university (I would rather not give the name) and to be honest, this school I am at currently was not my first choice and the entire semester I worked my ass off and I believe I got a 3.7 GPA but we will see when grades post in a couple days.

I just see all of my other friends go to much better Universities and I kinda feel like the loser kid who goes to a not so prestigious school... I am a computer science major and I just get this vibe that the program here is not very good for my major. I came to this school because they accepted me and they had the degree that I wanted, a computer science degree

to give some perspective, I live in Texas ended Highschool with a 2.89 GPA and ever since I started college I am completely dedicated to kicking ass and not settling for anything but a 3.5 or above, and I'm gonna hold true to that every semester I'm in college.

my whole reasoning for this post is I wanted to ask:
- if I want to transfer to a better college with a better computer science program where should I look? or what do you all recommend? (the highest I will go is Cornell, so don't list Ivies, I have thought about trying to transfer there but I checked and none of my classes I took this semester transferred over there and now I know why they only need 12 credits cause not very many credits will transfer there.)

should I even transfer? or should I just wait here and finish my degree and apply to better schools for graduate school?

does the quality of programs differ extremely between schools? and if so is it in my best interest to get into the best program I can?

my biggest point I want to emphasize is my mindset for an education has changed and I want to be challenged now, unlike in HS, and I also just want to be around generally smart people, i'm so tired of hearing students not care about their education, because I know I was that person and I learned to be better than that.

the only other school I have looked at myself is Univesity of Texas and I know CS is in the college of natural sciences and they want 30 hours of transferable credit and the average GPA according to their statistics is 3.67, I would like to go to UT it's just I want to know what else exists out there that I can go to for Computer Science.

I also am using Lynda.com to learn more about coding and stuff relevant to my degree and so far it's been really helpful
