It's less than a month left until I go to college and I'm still not very excited. Does anyone else feel this way? It's not like I enjoyed high school. I will go to a college that I have wanted to go to so that is not the reason. I've been busy all summer and throughout high school. I can't bear to think that I'll be even busier. I don't want a gap year either though. Maybe it's because I'm so exhausted.

To be honest, unless you take a crazy number of courses and join too many clubs and have a part-time job, freshman year isn’t that crazy busy. Yes you’ll have deadlines and homework, etc, but generally you’ll be placed in 100/200 level courses that have pretty light homework loads and don’t require too much effort. Freshman year you shouldn’t have to lose sleep or be all that busy unless you put too much on yourself. For a sort of “break” try taking only 12 credits your first semester or 2 and if your major/minor isn’t a language, leave that gen ed off for sophomore year to give yourself a rest. Hope this helped, good luck, and I hope you can have a good year at school even though you’re not really looking forward to it now!

You may find that you have much more free time in college than you expect. In high school, you were most likely in school all day and then had to to homework and/or any extracurriculars. In college, you may have class for a couple hours a day (likely less than the 7 hour days you had in school, unless you pack all of your classes into the same day or have lab classes). And then the rest of the day is yours to do whatever you want to do with. There’s less busy work or daily homework in college (some classes like math may have homework assignments), but odds are, many of your classes will be based primarily on exams or larger projects/assignments. Take it easy your first semester and you may find that you want to busier the next semester so that you have more things to fill up your day.

College is a great experience! Don’t be scared. Hard work is just a part of life. You can take easy courses or fewer courses your first semester until you get a hang of things.

When I was in HS I did sports and band and clubs and of course school Once you get to college, you don’t have to do ECs just to get to the next level. So you can join a club or two and start slow and don’t have to be so crazy busy.
