Not feeling smart enough to be here :(

So i managed to bomb my math quiz, chem midterm, and got a horrible grade on my paper. where do i go from here :( i studied a lot!

try harder :). My first quarter wasn’t easy as well. I bombed by midterm in 32A with Chayes but I still ended up with a B+. If you need help with the material with math, you can go to the math center (math science 3000?) for help and for other subjects, either covel tutoring or aap or tau beta pi.

3A? 14A? English Comp 3?

[Tutoring Options for Math](<a href=“Undergraduate Program | UCLA Department of Mathematics”>Undergraduate Program | UCLA Department of Mathematics)

I think it’s too late to sign-up for Covel… if anything, show up anyway and ask if you can sit-in.

You can also get the lists of all office hours held for your Chem 14A and Math 3A lectures. That, and you can show up to their discussion sections if they don’t mind. (I’d ask anyway; it’s not like there’s always a 100% turn-out rate to a section. I’ve done this before.) If those options don’t work, you can go to the office hours of your TA, the other TAs, and the professor. Schedule conflict? Shoot emails out to schedule appointment(s). Or if for some reason, those options don’t work out, find out the OH of the other 3A and 14A lectures and stalk a TA or find out their OH to get some extra help. Sure, the material might be somewhat different at that point - however, it’s still the Neuhauser and Atkins texts.

Math quiz? I’m assuming it’s no more than 5-6.5% of your grade. Your chem midterm is probably between 20-25% of your grade. You can still change things… I had a crappy adjustment or first few weeks as well. It turned out pretty good in the end and I am still here.

As for English Comp 3, there’s Covel tutoring for what automath mentioned. Not only that, I’m sure your paper had constructive criticism? How much was it of your grade? Probably 12.5% max? Talk to your TA about what you can do. Schedule an appointment or go to his/her OH.

the paper is for my cluster class :frowning: which i totally regret taking now. i failed math midterm and chem quiz. i shoulda gone to cc

math 3c, chem 14A? if so, i feel ur pain. =(

Eh, don’t worry. I failed both my math midterms, but passed with a B+. A lot of people go through this bad phase, but it’s a good kick in the arse.

Guys, you’ll do better over time. This is all part of adjusting to college.

What were your high school GPA/SAT scores?

Just watch out for who is tutoring for TBP. I dropped by for tutoring there once and the guy had a 3.6+ GPA, but didn’t know the definition of an eigenvector.

hey, you wouldn’t remember after a couple years either!

but i feel like that a lot too.

Obviously I’m not smart enough to be in this school too, cuz my GPA isn’t even 3.0. Anyway, I’m a senior so I don’t care anymore. All I want is to get my diploma in Spring.

I can list some easy South Campus courses for you,
Biostat 100A (everyone gets an A)
Epidemiology 100
Psych 127

Dude its totally fine, lol. As long as you don’t flunk, you are “smart” enough for this school. Now if you want to excel and be the top, that’s a different story.

Relax people!

Grades are a function of time.

A function that isn’t defined and can have many critical and inflection points…

uh what?

No I don’t think good grades= function of time. :p

God that is so hot.

Just watch out for who is tutoring for TBP. I dropped by for tutoring there once and the guy had a 3.6+ GPA, but didn’t know the definition of an eigenvector.

LOL. Are you serious? I mean come on even I know what eigenvector/eigenspace etc mean and my GPA is not even close to 3.6. Good win over Cal today btw. :)

mmm sounds like my schedule.. i had a math quiz and chem midterm…
do u have 32a with ward / 20a with gelbart?
i dont think ive been doin too poorly yet, so maybe we cud help each other out ;] (if u have the same classes/profs)

Some people find that a rocky start is a sign that they are in the wrong major or are taking classes that aren’t really interesting to them. I agree with the suggestions above for managing your way through this quarter, but before you sign up for your next set of classes, think about what else you could be taking.
