Not getting an interview--international student. What might it imply, if anything?

For an international in a country where not every applicant gets an interview, not getting an interview means that my application is sub par compared to those of the rest?

Because I didn’t get called for an interview.

Not only for Brown, but I didn’t get any interview from any other college either.

I have heard that not getting an interview does NOT mean anything as far as your application quality is concerned. If you read the interview thread, in fact, you’ll see someone who posted that their daughter got an interview only after notifying Admissions that they hadn’t been called. (The same thing happened to me) and the student was admitted ED to Brown, so obviously their application wasn’t sub-par. There probably aren’t that many alums in your area. I was told students were randomly selected for interviews. I’m certain that if there was a causal relation ship between no interviews and rejections, we’d have heard about it!

Newtocollege is correct: getting/not getting an interview means absolutely nothing. They don’t review your application before deciding whether or not you get one - it’s just luck. Since you’re international, there are probably not enough alums in your area for you to get an interview.

Yes don’t fret. There are likely just not enough alums to interview your area. However, for some students the interview is a good chance to ask some Brown related questions (maybe here is better?) If you just want to put a friendly voice/ find someone in your area to chat with about Brown, then it probably wouldn’t hurt to ask admissions to see if they could hook you up with a local/area interviewing alum even later. It would be unlikely that any conversation from that would meet the April 15th deadline that is for reporting interviews, but if it still seems interesting, it wouldn’t hurt to see if you could chat with an alum after that if you wanted to.

*** February 15th

my bad, knew that, but working on tax stuff!

We are U.S. citizens living overseas. My D received an e-mail last month from an alumni asking for her phone number to set up an interview. She never heard back so she sent another e-mail confirming her phone number. Still hasnt heard back. Should she contact Brown or just let it go?

pamayawaa: Tough call. Write-ups are due Feb. 15. If she wants to make an effort, then call. There’s nothing to be lost by doing that.
