Not going to high school in California=no cal grant for UC?

Hi, my situation is that I went to high school in a foreign country, then went to a community college in California and this fall is transferring to UCLA.Does that mean I will not receive cal grant?Ive heard cal grant is only for students who went to high school in California
Thanks

Cal grants are only for California residents. Did you establish California residency for tuition purposes before beginning at the community college?

I am classified as California residents for tuition purpose by UCLA.For community college I was considered California resident by my second year there.
One of my friend seems to lose his cal grant when he transferred to UC because he just like me did not go to high school here in California

As a transfer student who did not graduate from a California high school, you would not be eligible for a Cal Grant Transfer Entitlement Award. You may, however, receive a competive award (assuming you meet the Cal Grant eligibility requirements).

What is currently in your aid package? Have you properly completed any necessary verification paperwork?

Well my aid package(which still says its provisional) does include cal grant,UC grant and Federal Grant
I believed I have finished necessary paperwork UCLA asked me to send some documents to determine whether Im classified as California residence, which I did

UC residency criteria may be different than residency requirements at the CCC you attended.

Only the UCLA financial aid office can give you the information you need. Contact them to find out your status.

Ive read the residency criteria for UCLA and I believe I met all of them.I also sent UCLA all the required documents and my residency status on UCLA website also says residence so I dont think I have problem with that.Still like you said the problem is that I did not go to high school in California.
Thanks for the advice I will surely contact them for this

So update on this on my cal grant website it says this year Im awarded the competitive cal grant B

Great news!

Keep in mind that competitive CG’s have stricter requirements for renewal, I think. Congrats!

Thanks for your response does anyone know what is the requirement for renewal each year for competitive cal grant?
Also worst case scenario what if I dont receive cal grant next year will the Blue and Gold plan cover that?
Thanks
