University of South Carolina, Undergraduate Admissions
The fall 2011 freshman class is full as of the May 1 Enrollment Deposit deadline. We do not anticipate being able to take any students from the wait list. We will confirm the final status of all wait-listed students via mail by mid-May.

What a bummer. :(

I don’t mean to prolong this process for you, but there is still hope. If a student deposited at the school, but then gets off the WL at another school, then they’ll ditch the school they deposited at…hope it happens for you.

I know that can happen but I definitely get the impression they received A LOT more admits than they thought. I think they may be panicking.

They’re computers went down Sunday night because everyone was trying to log in to pay their deposits and get their housing.

Just told my D that they will not go to waitlist as she was hoping to start in Fall 2011 instead of Spring 2011. @class2015,thanks for giving us hope!

Of course they overenrolled. Just like last year…

However, last year, they did go to the wait list and I believe they started toward the end of April.

Admission said that they did not need to go to waitlist last year because they had enough enrollment.

@Oldschoolmom - I’m sorry your D is disappointed. Will she be attending in the spring or has she made other plans?

Thank you- She loves USC therefore she has decided to attend in the Spring.

Oldschool,

Please encourage her to go to a Jr. College for that missed semester, in the long run you will save big $$$ and she may avoid being behind. Or if you live near a USC branch campus, that’s an option for a semester also.

It seems that a LOT of my son’s friends were waitlisted.

imagep- she has already spoken to a USC adviser in regards to the department requirements. She will go to a Jr. College and take the courses she will need to keep her on track. You are right, the savings $$$$ will be a plus even though she was disappointed. Thanks

^This. Everyone pretty much panicked on May 1.

I’m seriously wondering how large the class will be. I didn’t think that they announced that they weren’t going off of their waitlist last year, so I’m thinking they must have BIG numbers. They already had plenty of applications to start off with (so many people were waitlisted this year!)

But seriously. My school hasn’t sent anyone to USC in five years. There are four of us going this year. It’s the second most popular school (tied with Wofford) just behind Clemson. There are five going to Clemson from my school this year. =/ So even the giant numbers has gone up at my school.

They didn’t make any announcement last year like they did on facebook this morning. I believe, according to USC Class of 2014 facebook posts, there were a few people last year very, very excited when they were called off of the wait list.

I think they got bombarded with admits very unexpectedly. I hope it does not mess up their housing. It could be a nightmare.

^This. As well.

I seem to be the only one who wants to live in Maxcy though… which excites me. I really, really, really want Maxcy. haha. Everyone I know has requested Patterson, Bates West, Columbia, and Capstone.

I really hope housing isn’t a nightmare, but it might be. I hope they don’t have to triple. eee.

When we went to the thingy at Carolina Country Club they said that they had accepted 12,000 students. They also said that they were going to cap the class size at 4,500.

My son and at least two (that I know of) of his classmates at his highschool were all accepted at Furman - all three of them ended up choosing USC instead.

Yeah. One of my friends made a last minute switch from Furman to USC due to the financials, where as another one of my friends chose Furman for financial reasons. They gave her enough that she won’t have to take out any student loans. It was too much money for her to pass up. XD

But in my class of 44, we have 12 going to state schools in SC. 23 are staying in state. So the economy might be taking its mark on college decisions this year.
