I won't be filling out any FASFA forms or anything. I'm just wondering if there is anything I need to do to show the universities that I'm applying to that I will be able to pay for an education if accepted. Should I submit the FASFA anyways to show my family's financial standing and prove that I'm not just applying for the heck of it with no intention of paying full price if accepted?

As of now, I'd just be sending in my app without FASFA, but I don't want that to be some kind of red flag.

If you are a millionaire or something, then just fill out the FAFSA anyway if you feel more comfortable doing so.

I do not think anyone will really care one way or the other, unless you are an independent student or an international student.

So, do what you feel comfortable doing.

Ok, welll we're definitely not that rich, but I'm applying for transfer and there isn't much aid available so I want to keep my chances good.

I would feel more comfortable not having to fill out the FASFA as it implies a need for financial aid (I'm guessing), which is something I don't want to do.

I just want to make sure they realize that I can pay for college if accepted...I wasn't sure if the FASFA also served as a kind of report of your financial standing that proved you could pay if accepted. Or should I just add in the additional comments "I am not requesting financial aid because I realize there is very little available for transfer students and I can finance my education personally."

Your application for admission can be sent to most places LONG before the FAFSA is even available for completion (Jan 1 for the following September finaid awards). I always recommend folks complete the FAFSA at some point. You never know when an unforeseen circumstance (loss of parent income, illness, etc) will put a strain on your finances and ability to pay for college. If that happens, it is better to already have the finaid forms on file so that the school can reevaluate your situation. The last thing you will want to do if there is an issue is complete the FAFSA. You can wait to do this until AFTER you accept admittance. If they don't receive any finaid info from you , they will know that you will be paying your own way as they will not considering you for any finaid.

Thx Thumper good info.

Most apps I have seen ask if you are applying for financial aid.
