not sending ap scores

So i took 3 ap tests so far in high school, and i got a 3, a 2, and a 5, but I dont want to send my scores to Cornell. If I do this, and I dont list ap scholar on my application, will colleges think that i failed all 3 exams?

especially cornell, what will they think.

@HugeOverachiever You don’t have to “send” your AP scores to Cornell until after you are accepted. You just self-report the scores on your application. After you are accepted to and decide on a college, you should then send the scores from the College Board so that you can get any college credits that you might qualify for.

Listen to what others say about your question, but this is my opinion. By the way, did you take those APs during sophomore or junior year? And, which college at Cornell will you be applying to? What were your grades in those three AP classes?

As far as I know, there is no obligation to report AP scores.

But, I would definitely report the 5.

And, I would probably report the 3, especially if it’s not a class that is important to the major you are applying for.

I might not report the 2. You can send it after acceptance with the other scores, but no one will care about it at that point.

Some small colleges might notice that you didn’t report the 2 and wonder why or assume you did poorly. But others might just assume you never took the AP exam for that particular class. They are all reading thousands of applications, so they might miss some of the details.

If the 2 was in a class that is related to a major you are considering, that is not great. Especially if the 2 was on an AP Calc AB or Calc BC exam and you want to be a math major or engineer. If it was a 2 on an AP Latin exam and you want to be an engineer, that score won’t matter much in the long run.

My son got a 2 on an AP exam junior year. It was unfortunate timing because he had pulled an overnighter on a plane the night before the exam (We had traveled across the country for our other son’s college graduation.) I think he had a good excuse for the poor score, because he had not gotten much sleep (or studying) during the four days prior to the exam, but, we still decided that he should not report the 2 to any college. He did report a 3 that he got the next day, though. Both of the low ones were not directly related to his intended major. Luckily he got top scores in his math and science classes, which are related to his major. And, he had an otherwise strong academic record and did well on his six AP exams in his senior year. He was accepted to Cornell Engineering.

You are not required to report AP scores. On the other hand, if you took an AP course and without an AP score then it doesn’t look great. If you got good grade in the class and received a low AP score, it maybe more of a reflection on the school. If your school sends in school profile, it may show distribution of AP scores for each subject, and a score of 2 may be an average score.

My kid was in the IB program at her school. Even though she did very well in school, her IB scores were not great, but it spoke more to the strength (or lack) of the program.

I would like to study mechanical engineering
The ap classes, course grades, and ap scores are the following:

Ap lang: 89/91 score: 5

APUSH: 96/95 score: 2

AP chem: 90/85 score: 3
