Not so confident now...

Now that Michigan is taking the total cumulative weighted GPA, I may be screwed. No one from my school is allowed to take honors/AP classes freshman year, so TOTAL GPA went from 4.6 to 4.3.

There was nothing I could do to get into any weighted classes in my freshman year...nothing. And I only found out Michigan changed its policy after I submitted my app, so there was nothing I could do to explain my school's policy in the additional comments

My total unweighted is still 4.0, however.

So, by some miracle, will Michigan know that my course rigor in my freshman year was limited by school policy and that my total GPA is a function of lower opportunity?

holy crap dude. so you’re worried about going from a freaking 4.6 to a 4.0 UW? wow. thats all I can say

Well I’m OOS so my chances are lower anyway.

But again, I thought they’re taking total weighted now.

And my question stands: will they know what was available to me to take at each grade level?

Yeah I agree with Moricarak.

Anyways, first of all, U of M would never use a 4.6 GPA. During the old process, the max it could be was 4.0. Now they use whatever your school gives, and if there’s an UW GPA, they’ll use that.

Yes, the admissions officer should know how to read the high school profile your school sends them. I don’t think of it as a miracle though, more as a job requirement.

Wait, so if they give both a weighted and unweighted gpa, they’ll use the unweighted?

And yeah, I agree I’m being a bit unreasonable here…and I forgot about the profile part. So would be GPA still be ok now (as in as good it seemed before)?

yes, a 4.0 UW is the best you can get. congrats

And on the extra information sheet you should’ve put that you weren’t allowed weighted classes freshman year

Michigan knows what is available to you.

So wait, I’m confused. Does your school use a 5-point or 4-point GPA scale?

My school uses 4 point scale, with 5 being the maximum weighted GPA.

Ok, so Michigan definitely will know what I could and could not take at each grade level?

Also, just curious, are there huge differences between 3.90 vs 3.95 vs 4.0 for Michigan?

Doubtful, only if you have a border line ACT/SAT would be my guess

Say you had a 2240 SAT (that’s my score).

Are you kidding?

Dear hs school seniors,

Please stop stressing about stupid things. I can’t even believe this thread. If I was an admissions officer, I would reject people on the fact they stressed out even when they had excellent stats. Please grow a pair and move on.

Sorry dude, you have no chance. If only you had managed a 2260 things might have turned out differently.

Seriously. I get that you’re a little worried about getting into a good University and I wasn’t going to say anything, but come on, this is like your 5th thread? Just accept that you’re going to get accepted soon. There are people who actually need help, and pointless threads like these prevent them from getting the advice they need.

agree with blackpen and yosup stressing out at this kind of a level is just immature, especially if your treating a 4.3 GPA like its really bad. What about other students who don’t have a high gpa like you? 4 years of high school should have been about a human being growing up.
