Not so great GPA/Decent SAT....Glasgow..Oxford???

Okay, so my first years of highschool I screwed up, same old story. My GPA is a 3.1, so not very good, but on my SAT I received a 2200 and took the SAT 2 for french and received a 760. I also got a 5 on an AP art history exam and received an A in 3 UW courses, so I have 15 credits already. I'm going to be a senior next year.
I am only in one club, French, but I have done a lot of volunteer work at the Library, the animal shelter, kids camps and food drives.
Also, I am taking two online courses during my senior year through Oxford University... "Vikings: Raiders, Traders and Settlers".... and "Ritual and Religion in Prehistory" both are archaeology courses in the areas which I want to continue education in.
Now, my question is, is all this good enough to get into schools like the University of Glasgow or University of Oxford in Oxfordshire?
I want to get my degree in Archaeology and Scandinavian languages, and both colleges interest me, but I don't know if my GPA ruined my chances :/
Thank you for any help you can give! :D

You have 15 college credits, all As, yes? Plus the 5 on the AP Art History exam. Decent SAT scores. I think you should apply to Oxford and U Glasgow. You may not get into Oxford, but you should shoot for it. You could stand a chance at Glasgow.

Your extra curriculars don’t matter to British universities. They are only interested in your academics.

Alright, here’s your game plan: apply for Scandinavian languages. No one does it and your rather poor GPA (yes, for Oxford too) will be offset by your course choice, which is pretty unpopular.

The UK is VERY NUMBERS BASED! They don’t give a crap about your ECs and for US students it’s all about the SAT and the GPA. SAT score looks good. Try to get your GPA to about 3.5 and FOCUS ON YOUR AP SCORES. AP scores are weighed much heavier in the UK than here.

Good luck!

GPA is irrelevant for Oxford, but you need at least 3 SAT IIs each at over 700 or at least three APs at Grade 5. They are supposed to be in subjects relevant to the course you are applying for. Art History AP is assessed as a Group B subject by UCAS so British universities, including Oxford, are only likely to consider it as half an AP at most.

ya they could care less about your EC’s unless they are directly related to the program you are applying to.

You’ll get into Glasgow for sure.
For Oxford you really need to be a genius in your field. I know people who have got into Oxford from my school and people who have not. The ones who did get in were the smartest people I know, and they were extremely well-rounded, but still concentrated on one subject they were really excellent in. So be ready to already know a lot about your subjects when applying to Oxford.

Since the original poster actually has about a semester’s worth of US university courses, I was thinking she wouldn’t need the 3 APs, but you know what? I think you’re right. She needs a year of US university, not one semester. You’re right.

She will need either additional AP exams (for either Glasgow or Oxford) or one more semester of university before she can apply. That, or the SAT II subject tests, as you mentioned. For Oxford, those AP exams should be scored 5. For Glasgow, they can be more like 5, 4, 4, or 5, 5, 4, depending on the course to which she applies.

To the original poster - I suggest you go to the websites for Oxford and Glasgow. See if the courses to which you’re applying require specific A level subjects of British applicants. If they do, then you’ll want to try to mirror those, and do your AP exams and/or SAT II tests in those subjects.
