Hi, I'm an American sophmore at a regionally known state university applying to British schools for French/Russian. Chance me and I'll chance back!

Where I'm applying:
Edinburgh
St Andrews
Glasgow
Warwick
Oxford maybe?

SAT:
2020
740 CR
640 M
640 W

AP:
5 on French

GPA:
High School:
4.0 unweighted

University:
3.89 unweighted

Other:
Finished HS in two years and entered university immediately, so I'm only 17. Idk if age factors in at all.

If you want more details like ECs just ask :), but I'm not too worried about those.

@sunrisenation1 thank you! St Andrews is probably my top choice. Also from what I can tell Edinburgh/Glasgow are easier to get into than St Andrews.

Oxford is a high reach (the Harvard of the UK)
St. Andrews is a high match
Glasgow and Edinburgh are on target.
The fact that you graduated high school so early can only work in your favor. Good luck!

Are you thinking of transferring, or starting again?

If you are thinking of transferring in you should know that it is exceptionally unusual (and definitely won’t happen at Oxford). Have you looked at the course schedules for French or Russian at any of these unis to compare what students at the unis you are interested in study in year1?

If you are prepared to start as a 1st year, and you have taken classes relevant to French/Russian you would be in better shape.

@collegemom3717 I would start as a first year (or 2nd year if they would consider that). Hopefully my credits would transfer over though or something like that.

Credits won’t typically transfer- the UK unis aren’t focused on ‘credits needed to graduate’, but rather on the classes needed to complete the degree. What courses have you taken at the university level?

collegemom3717 – I’ve taken a lot of courses–54 credits. Mainly French, Russian and Economics with some History, Calculus, Linguistics, and Computer Science. Others too.

Of the schools on that list that I’m familiar with, I think you are a good candidate for St Andrews and Edinburgh. I think Oxford would be a reach.
