Recently I've been looking at admission requirements for the colleges I'm planning to apply to, and a lot of them want to see or even require three SAT IIs. This year the only tests that overlap with the courses I'm taking are Math 2 and Chemistry, which I'm planning to take in June. I need a third test to take before applications go out in December, so what should I do? Although I'm in Anatomy this year, I haven't taken general Biology since freshman year and I was planning to take AP Bio next year so that doesn't seem like an option. I took Physics last year and I'm taking AP next year, but I think that's a more viable option since I could just take a look at what I learned and refresh my memory. I took APUSH last year and got a 5, and though I've forgotten much of it I'm sure if I had a couple good prep books I could be ready for the test by June. Finally, I could take Literature because I have read a good number of classics and done well in Honors + AP language arts courses, but I hear it's hard and I'm not sure how to prepare. Any advice on which tests to take and what prep I should do for them? Thanks!

I’m assuming you’re a junior.

Physics and lit are arguably among the more difficult subject tests offered; it’s rather difficult to prepare for lit. If you get the Princeton Review book for physics and study that you should be fine, though.

You can also get the Barron’s book for the biology test, study that, and you should be able to do well. You don’t have to take the classes to necessarily score 700+.

Just make sure you don’t cram all your tests last-minute so you have a chance to redo them if you don’t like your first scores.

Your best bet for the third one would be SAT US History. The facts aren’t terribly hard to remember if you go through the Crash Course APUSH book and an SAT-specific book or two. I’m sure you’ll do fine with that one!

The Literature test has a very difficult curve. I was surprised by my score (and I say this as a student who got an 800 on the CR portion of the SAT I). It may be in your best interest to try US History instead.

If you are still interested in trying a different test, get the Official Study Guide for All SAT Subject Tests, which has sample tests for each subject. That way you can try out the different tests and gauge how easy or difficult they are for you.
