Okay so here are my 2 options for applying to a Penn undergrad school/program (I am torn):
Option 1: Apply to the Huntsman Program Pros:
• Exactly what I’m looking for in terms of International Exposure + my major
Cons:
• Won’t have the chance to take a language SAT II
• Not anything outstanding at French (i.e. no major awards)
• Am only taking AP AB Calc this year
• Requires an extra essay…basically “is this worth my time to apply?”
Option 2: Apply to only the CAS Pros:
•Acceptance rate is higher
•I can try to apply to Huntsman or Wharton later
Cons:
• I wouldn’t get to study business
Opinons? Especially from current Penn Students and/or those rejected from Huntsman?
It is generally not a good strategy to apply just to CAS, with the intension of applying to Huntsman later on, because internal transfer is by no means guaranteed and it is actually quite hard, especially to Huntsman. I would say apply to Huntsman and put CAS as your second choice in your app. If they reject you from huntsman they will automatically consider you for CAS, so you are not losing anything.
As a mom of an applicant (that was admitted to Wharton Ed), I’d say you really should apply for what you want to study and your career goals. If what you really want is Huntsman, then apply to Huntsman! You will only regret the shots that you don’t take in life out of fear of rejection…
