Not sure what to do

Accidentally posted this in High School Life, whoops

I’m a sophomore right now and I want to go towards the engineering career, mechanical/electrical and robotics. However, I’m not sure how I should spend my last two summers. I want to go to summer camps to learn and maybe build up a resume, but my parents say summer camps are expensive and that the knowledge I gain from them are just for fun and won’t help towards college apps. I can’t get a job yet because I’m 15, most internships also require 16 years age. I’d volunteer a lot but my parents said I shouldn’t just volunteer anywhere, I should have a “goal” when I go volunteer, but I don’t know any volunteering opportunities pertaining to engineering. I’ve read about research internships, but they seem to be always the medical field, and aren’t they really hard to get in? Could a guy who literally knows nothing but school work land a research internship? So yeah, I’m stuck

Also, would it be better if I found a job even if it’s just at a small grocery store or fast food place
