Not Taking AP Exams Senior Year?

But having some AP credit can make it easier to withdraw from a class, or fit in study abroad, or work…my DD graduated a year and a half early (her choice) with her IB credits and some summer classes.

Having AP credits can also give you higher priority in scheduling at some of the large publics.

@momofsenior1 What kind of large publics can give me a high priority in scheduling?

Hi all—been out for a bit so I just saw the responses (really appreciate so many people replying). My HS does not require AP exams (at least for the classes I’m taking) and I am not interested in amassing credit to skip intro courses/graduate early (I would like to get a comprehensive foundation before entering higher level classes; been a bit wary of skipping courses after hearing common stories of falling behind).

Regardless, the college I will be attending has a strict criteria for AP credit. My only concern was that what I wrote on my college app (7 exams) would be changed (4 exams) and if I should contact the school. It seems that it’s not a big deal, which is good. Thanks again for everyone’s help!

@woshua Purdue will give students a higher priority if they come in with AP/dual credit. I’ve heard there are other schools but that’s the one I have direct knowledge. If APs go as predicted, my daughter will be starting as a second semester sophomore for scheduling purposes.

DS had enough AP credit to be considered a “sophomore” his freshman year. Each year he got emails as if he was a year ahead of himself (ie offered to register for classes as a junior when he was a sophomore, got info on buying his senior college ring when he was a junior, etc). IIRC, he still took the sciences college courses (that he’d taken APs in) but used some of his AP credits to satisfy distribution requirements and/or to meet prerequisite requirements so he could take a higher level class.

As for HS, most schools around here (public and private) require students taking AP classes to take the AP exam. IIRC the student acknowledges it when they register for the class.

However, some may use the AP credit to take more electives or more advanced courses instead of introductory level courses. Others may use it to avoid graduating late.
