The only note taking strategy I know of is Cornell, but I don't feel as if it helps me out. What other strategies are there? I will be taking AP World History this year, are there any suggested strategies for that particular subject or in any history class for taking notes?

Continue the cornell system, use your notes as flashcards.

I took AP world this year. Our homework had a requirement of taking cornell notes for the chapter we read that week.
I’m going to assume you’ll have a textbook that you’ll have to read and you will need to take notes on.

Read carefully! Take notes from each paragraph in your textbook. There was a purpose for that paragraph, so obviously there’s a significance behind it. Don’t write word for word what’s in the textbook, PARAPHRASE it. It’s better to use your own words, you’ll have better memory of what you read. If there are words you don’t know, look up the definition, write it down. The teacher could mention those words on a test, or it can show up on an essay prompt.
Take notes on things of what led up to an event, the impact of influence, impact in general…etc
look at the big picture
Facts are useless unless they can be analyzed.
