Note to Roomate

Jot a note to your future college roommate relating a personal experience that reveals something about you. (1400 character limit)

What did everyone write for this one? I am so lost.

Basically they say the prompt is more or less as follows "Tell us something about yourself that we wouldn't know to ask." (There's a section in the official SCEA applicants thread with a short description of what people wrote for each essay which might be helpful) You can write about just about anything... My suggestion is to figure out what you want to write for the other essays (since I think they're less open ended) and plan out what you want to get across in those essays. See if there's anything else about you that you want to bring out in the essays. The note to the roommate is the place to do that.

I had trouble with this one too. Avoid any topic that is generic and tell a tale that only YOU can tell... This one is a freebie, you can write about anything you want so make it special.

Is it supposed to be humorous? I wrote one that is kind of weird and funny, in a way. Is it good to be quirky...or should we go with "safe" and say serious?

is it supposed to be like a note? in the vernacular? because it says jot a note...just wondering

do what you want with it. Its a great question because it leaves open a lot of creativity. I wrote a note style and a more essay style and went with the note style. I can tell you for sure there is no one way to write it. Just write whatever feels more like you cause thats what they want to know.

what to include in it...what to include. i wrote about the time i had a roommate for 2 weeks but we got in a fight and they broke their ankle and moved away...that was the only time ive ever had a roommate and i wrote about how i hoped it wouldnt happen again but couldnt promise anything. i thought it was a good idea, any input?

It doesn't have to be about roommates or anyting about rooms... Its anything you want it to be. Just add a 'Dear Future Roommate' in the beginning and end it with a 'Yours Truly'

I didn't even do that "Dear Future Roommate" thing... i dont think its necessary.

A quirky answer is fine. My son wrote about his love for Indian food and basketball.

Do what you want with it but make SURE it's worth it. It needs to add something to your application; it needs to have a really big POINT. So you could tell them a funny story about your life, but if it doesn't have any BIG meaning--other than "I was precocious as a child" or "I accidentally dropped soemthing"--then it's been wasted. It's more of an avenue into your personality... if you feel like something is missing from the rest of the application, here is where you talk about it.

At least, that's the impression I got.

its just showing who you are outside of academics.
