How do kids generally take notes at Cornell (college in general?) Do they use paper and pen or a laptop?

depends on your major, frankly.

If your in Engineering, U wd be much better off with note-book and pen.

But, maybe if your in a major that needs only writing alphabets, and not symbols, u could use a laptop.

barely anyone uses laptops for notes, most, if not all takes notes the traditional way, that is my experience at least

most people use paper and pen. most meaning almost every single person. in a lecture class of 200 you'll see maybe 3-5 kids with a laptop, but sometimes none. in a regular sized class, i don't think i've ever seen a laptop.

Do people take "Cornell Notes"?

what are cornell notes?

But wouldn't it be more advantageous to type out your notes rather than write by hand if say you type at about 100 words a minute? (Just seems easier on your hands in a 2 hour or so lecture)

almost all lectures are 50 minutes. not all of the 50 minutes is writing. 2 hours of typing is strenuous, too. it's much easier to "format" and write equations, diagrams, etc. on paper. if you really like typed notes. you can always type them up at the end of the day and scan in your drawings or something to facilitate easier studying.

Try out the new tablet PC's you can write on them.

"Cornell Notes" is where you write the name of a concept in the margin and then its main points next to the concept. At least that's what I remember from it. Our high school made us take "Cornell Notes" throughout our biology and chemistry classes.

Hmmm I wanted a laptop to type with in class...I think I'll at least give it a try...maybe bring both...

what about tape recorders? do ppl use those

my experience, in most classes, lecture notes are completely useless. I know that in the 3-4 humanity/social science classes I have taken this year, class notes were useless. I took notes in all of them, and never, and i am being honest, never went to study them, b/c the notes were complete regurgatation of readings.

I don't find it necessary to take notes. A lot of people do it... it's not my style though.

most people don't record lectures either. just attending paying attention is the most important part. The readings go into more depth, the lectures help you grasp the basic concepts/clarify readings.

Lecture notes are highly crucial for science classes.
