My senior K is down to the last straw! Last chance at getting a walk-on spot in his top D1 track programs! Less than stellar coaching and injury have kept him reaching potential in high school. District track meet is this week! I know I am completely biased, but feel that any program that gets my son would be getting a "diamond in the rough." The two programs he is looking at he is certainly not out of line, but just hasn't had that one great race like all of the others. Hopefully, this will finally be it as he is finally not injured, but has had few opportunities to acually compete in his events so far this season due to coaching decisions to give everyone a chance.

If he can stay injury free, I’m sure he could develop, however, coaches do take injury history into consideration. He will be training harder in college and make him even more prone to injury. I’m sure most programs would take him or at least allow him to train and hopefully next year he will have better luck.

If track is extremely important to HIM, why not lower his sights to something that is less than top level D1 walk-on? He may want to cast a wider net than two schools especially with his injuries, and a ticking clock.

Many rosters may already been filled by now. Have the coaches at those two schools told him he can come on as a walk on?

Lucky for my S, he was able to get a spot at his top school, and now can look forward to an exciting future which we hope doesn’t include too many injuries! At least he is at his favorite school if he does.

Congratulations to your son! It must be a great feeling.

Thank you ChicagoMama!! We are thrilled he has the opportunity to continue doing what he loves at his top school!
