Notification date of Finalist of Richmond Scholars

UR Admissions said above that semi-finalists were notified; how long ago and how was this done? Via email or need do we to login to the UR site? Also, I thought finalists wouldn't be selected until semis are asked to submit additional info.

Semi-finalists were notified in numerous batches starting around December 19 and going through Monday of this week. They were notified both by postal mail and e-mail (there is no on-line posting system). Those who do not advance to the semi-finalist round are not notified.

Correct--Finalists are notified in February AFTER all the semi-finalists have submitted additional information and been reviewed exhaustively by our faculty to narrow the field from just over 500 down to about 90.

As Helen just figured out, most of this thread is from LAST year, so I think that may be the source of some confusion. Be sure to look at the dates of the posts so you'll know where someone pulled up a very old thread looking for an answer to this year's process.

I realize there's a number that will always feel overlooked but....WOW....

Dau applied with these stats and not even a semi:

1 rank in class of 460

GPA of 4.00/4.00 (weighted 4.30)
Rigorous class schedule; will have 7 APs by graduation
Two AP finals taken so far with 5 on each (World Hist and US Hist)
SAT of 1390/2020
Featured in Time magazine as one of 25 high school leaders of tomorrow
Nationally recognized award and published research by Amer Museum of Natural History
Over 400 hours community service
Volunteer tutor to low-income kids
Elected to County Board of Education
Several leadership positions in school organizations and student gov
Plays 2 HS sports
US Senate Page
US Congressional internship

Beginning to think her application fell behind the Xerox machine (seriously)

You have to remember that they can't pick everyone. They had to eliminate 4500 probably equally qualified applicants from the running. I had similar stats and didn't get chosen. Does it stink? Yeah. But with so many qualified people it's not possible for everyone who deserves it to get it.

I agree with kronren. There are some amazing, outstanding candidates who will be left out. The same will be true when it is time for Richmond to select the finalists.

jomass:

For unhooked applicants, test scores appear to play a major role in separating 4.0s from 4.0s. Two years ago, the cutoff was 2190/33. see page 2 of the link below

The University continued to offer Presidential merit scholarships of $15,000/year to those in the applicant pool with high standardized test scores.

Question for UR Admissions: I did not include an extracurricular resume in my general application, and only included short notes in the application boxes because I intended to send a full one. I called the school because of an account "messup" and was notified that you guys hadn't received that resume when I first sent it, and I definitely want in considered when you guys start choosing finalists (because competition is so tough)... can I still fax in or mail a copy?

On the blog (<a href="http://admissionsblog.richmond.edu/%5B/url%5D">http://admissionsblog.richmond.edu/</a>), it says:

Most Richmond Scholars semi-finalists have been notified already, and all will be notified by the end of this week.

So is there a little hope for us left? :/

Not according to this post:

I was recently notified that I have been selected as a semi-finalist. So excited!! Congrats to everyone else who has made it to this level.

Now it's just time for all of us to hussle and get those mid year grades in. Again, best regards to everyone :)

I'm very sorry for the mixed messages on the issue of whether or not all the semi-finalists have been notified. I guess this is at least an indication that I am not the same person who manages the office blog. . .

In the spirit of full disclosure, if there are any other semi-finalists yet to be notified, their number would be tiny--a handful at most.

Again, I'm sorry we had our wires crossed on this point. We're all moving 85 MPH through the office and working very long days at this stage.

when are they notifying for finalist decisions?

Finalists will be notified the week of February 23

thanks UR!

UR Admissions,

Have you started notifying the finalists yet?

Has anyone heard if they made it to the finalist round for the Richmond Scholarship?

No I haven’t heard anything. UR Admissions - are you out there? Can you tell us how and when we would be notified and about how many you expect?

Rugby, unfortunately, URAdmissions has moved on and it doesn’t seem as though anyone else in the admissions office has decided to actively answer questions on here (at least in an official capacity).

Based on your name, I hope you decide to play rugby at UR if you end up there – it was a big part of my four years and the team has come a long way. Great way to meet people, and have social events outside the normal outlets.

Yep, I’ve moved on but kept this screen name so IF someone from UR joins up they won’t have the same name. I wish they would join; I always thought it was beneficial from both sides, but that’s how it goes!

I don’t know their calendar but I would think they are closing in on notifications very soon. You will hear by e-mail, so keep checking it regularly (but not obsessively). The campus visit is 3/16-18, so they’ll want to have you all have roughly 3 weeks to plan your travel. I know that seems like a quick turn-around and it is, but it always seems to work even for international students in places that need visas.

You can always call the office and ask. That usually works! And read the admissions blog regularly too. Good luck to all! Don’t take it personally if you don’t make it–the pool is hyper-competitive. I know it is easier for me to say than it is for you to feel.

Best wishes to all!

UR Admissions, will you post here when notifying has finished?
