I was just wondering if all of the semi-finalist decisions had been sent. A friend of mine received his very early (dec. 19th) and said the due date for the essays were January 4th. I was really hoping to receive an offer and any official information regarding it would be greatly appreciated.

There was a post on the Richmond admissions blog (which someone actually linked on this board somewhere, but I’m too lazy to find it) that said the letters are sent in waves. Some people receive letters in December, while other receive them in mid- and late January. So, I guess you could really find out anytime from now until late January.

Edit: Okay, I found it: http://admissionsblog.richmond.edu/2009/12/16/richmond-scholars-where-do-we-go-from-here/ Maybe that will help?

Yeah, the essays will just be due on Jan 4th for that particular group of kids that were notified.

Don’t worry, you still have plenty of time to be notified. If you are notified, you have a fixed period of time to send additional materials, I think it’s one week, but I’m not very sure. Anyway, that fixed period of time is the same for all applicants, no matter when you are notified. It’s the notification day+ 1 week or whatever. You may want to check your email quite often so you don’t lose a day just because you didn’t know.

Just so you know, last year I was notified as a semifinalist in very late January-early February and I am now a happy Richmond Scholar. Don’t freak out, now it’s just the beginning of the notification process. Good luck!

Thank you so much hbeck5686, kelliebm, and ana_ro. All of that information was very helpful.

Reading the report on the 2008 Richmond Scholar program, it appears that the scholarships are somewhat of a recruiting tool to get the best and the brightest to attend Richmond. That being said, is there any chance that an ED accepted student would be considered for these scholarships given that he/she is already committed to attend?

Yes…I know two ED students who were considered and one was awarded

i just got my semi-finalist e-mail today. does the order of the mailing reflect who is highest on Richmond’s priority list? just wondering…

EDIT: okay, never mind.

Just curious…does anyone know what stats (or anything else) it takes to get to semi-finalist status?

Has anybody been notified that they are a semifinalist for artist scholars yet?

You aren’t notified as to which designation you are until later in the competition. When you are selected as a semifinalist, you have the option to choose whether you are an artist, oldham, science, etc. Basically there aren’t any specific designations at the semifinalist level.

does that mean that they really just look at your stats for the first round?
because I submitted my portfolio and voice CD since they asked to. do they not consider that stuff until the semifinalist round?

Hey, was the December 15 date a postmark date or a receive date? The blog says
Mine definitely didn’t arrive completely by 15th, but was postdated 15th (I sent my FinAid Papers, got the high school transcript posted and submitted the SAT scores on or a few days before the 15th). How do I know whether I was even considered? (My teacher sent the recommendation for the Science Scholars on Dec 12th or 13th).

You could call and find out…
