Notification of recieving scholarship?

I was accepted to UIUC as a computer engineer, but I haven't accepted yet as I'm still waiting if Purdue would hand out any scholarships (which I've started to lose hope over because of their unweighted 3.8 GPA requirement).

How does getting scholarships work at this school? Looking around, it seems the engineering department hands out scholarships automatically. But when would I be notified?

Also, where else would I be able to apply for other scholarships?

i have the same question.

Notification occurs in mid to late march with merit-based scholarships based on your application. Call Engineering to ask about any separate application process for the myriad of scholarships they have.

Balthezar: Thanks for the advice for calling engineering. I’m going to do that tomorrow! I just have to ask though. Do you have any insight on the out-of-state scholarship that is 12k/yr? Do they just solely look at academic achievement of ACT/SAT and GPA or do leadership skills and extracurriculars also influence it? I am just nervous about the scholarship since that is the only way I would go to Illinois.

I’m not familiar with the OOS Scholarship, sorry. We’re instate. But I do know that merit scholarships are based solely on the application, unless specifically stated in the documentation for the specific scholarship. Here’s a link to the scholarships on the financial aid website

amaster008: Like you, my decision to go to UIUC primarily hinges on whether or not I receive the 12k/year scholarship that you are talking about. However, I did read somewhere that in order an OOS student to be eligible for that 12k/year, he/she has to have first received the general university scholarship (I don’t remember the name). I may be wrong, but I think I read this on the UIUC scholarship page before they changed the layout and I couldn’t find anything anymore haha.

GL to both of us in march

^Not quite sure what you’re talking about? I got the 12k a year, but I don’t remember seeing any other money from U of I.

^oh okay, great! That means I’m wrong, and it isn’t as hard as I thought it would be. =D

When did you get the scholarship? Recently right?

About a month ago. I applied during the priority round though, if that makes a difference.

I don’t know how selective Illinois is in giving out 12k a year, though. I know three friends who also applied to U of I, and they all got it. They’re all really good students, though. Not omgosh good, but up there… if you know what I mean.

“SAT II: 800 Math II, 800 Physics, 800 Chem, 780 Bio E”

Holy sh|t?!?!? Dude I just came across your Stanford EA thing and you’re hella beast lol.
All I got is 800 Math 2, and 780 physics =(. I got a 750 in chem freshman year but I don’t really like to talk about that haha

yeah so my hopes just went downnn

^
Do they even consider SAT II’s because mine are even lower than that! Haha.
To the comment of ThatsSoCoooolMan, I think that playing Priority didn’t make too much a difference … Unless I’m mistaken since I haven’t gotten any scholarship offers, but yet again, my test scores aren’t that great. It was my essay and extracurriculars that got me in, on a personal note. That’s just why I’m wondering if it is just solely numbers (how high of an ACT score, high class rank, high GPA, etc) or in a holistic kind of way. Yep…

no need for such high test scores to get the 12K scholarship. I got the $12K scholarship with 760 Reading, 750 Math, 730 Writing. I don’t think they consider SAT II that much if at all. Also got a $2000 scholarship! helps a lot, cuz Illinois is rather expensive for out of state students.

^ enemyunit, I endorse this

My friends got their scholarships with less. If you’re freaking out about a 750 versus an 800 I would be confident in saying that you are flipping your pancakes too hard.

If it’s enlightening at all, this is an excerpt from the scholarship letter:
“Because of your high school academic record and activities, your score on the national testing program, and your demonstrated potential for success…”

from what I gleaned of it, it feels like they look at your transcript as a whole, but only look at essays to find a hail mary in terms of “demonstrated potential for success”.

^
It also says activities, so I’m assuming that look at your application holistically? Though I think I stand no chance … It’s so difficult since the OOS pool is so competitive. I’m surprised that I even got into engineering. Is it possible for them to notify us BEFORE March?

I wish the best of luck to us too enemyunit.
