The envelopes were VERY cute and a bit thick…but i hope it’s not an issue for anyone

I was not at Capstone scholars day and am also curious how many finalists were selected…there are five or six on this board,no?

plus, I think part of the postage problem is that the ink of the postage is too similar to the envelope. Did anyone notice that?

This reminds me of a nephew’s wedding invites…

For some reason, they chose dark chocolate brown envelopes. When they printed up the name/addresses on the clear mailing labels, no one noticed that once the clear labels were placed on the dk brown envelopes, the name/addresses virtually disappeared. Most of the invites never made it to their destinations. For some reason, we got ours (which I kept to show people who don’t believe this could happen.)

It didn’t even look like there was postage! but the envelopes were hand addressed-a nice touch

^^^^

Maybe that’s another reason why they aren’t arriving at the same time. They’d address some, mail some, address some, mail some. LOL

Got 2 envelopes in the mail from Bama today.

1-an Honors College acceptance letter…the date at the top of the letter was December 18, 2009, but it was postmarked Jan 28th. Weird.
2-a “sorry” letter for Univ Fellows with a scrawled note at the bottom: “we want the very best for you!”

Oh well. Pretty sure I got NMF.

By the way, the letter says over 500 applied for UFE and that 100 were semifinalists, but it does not mention a number for how many were finalists.

thanks junipermellow-that answers a few of my questions

Sorry you didn’t get good news

juniper…

Sorry to hear that you didn’t make finalist. I felt that they “owed” you that in a way since they messed up with your phone call.

**You almost definitely got NMF. The rejection letters for that went out 3 weeks ago. **

So, let that be your good news today. :)

update: rejection. i got that exact note too, junipermellow!

so we are tentatively NMFs if we didn’t get notification already?! hooray!

^^^

Yes, the NM rejection letters were sent out about Jan 5th. On CC, the last one reported being rec’d was Jan 11th or 12th.

So, hooray!!!

:(
DSs rejection did not have a note on it, guess they don’t want the very best for him!

… j/k of course ;)

I wonder if they wrote that on the phone interview rejections.

Well, D didn’t have a phone interview…

neither did Tres though…

I was really surprised by the rejection, as well. I didn’t feel entitled to a finalist decision simply because of the phone call fiasco (although a quick apology for all of the stress that caused me would have been nice), but I felt my phone interview went reasonably well, if a bit harried. It was about 12 minutes long, and I didn’t make any real missteps. Maybe they felt I didn’t show enough interest in the program or the school because I never had a chance to visit.

Oh well. NMF + Honors College = Not a bad deal at all.

The mailing difficulties are reminiscent of what occurred several years ago when the University Fellows program was initiated. During that admission cycle, University Fellows notifications were on vellum paper–not the envelopes, however. Also a plaque was mailed separately to each University Fellows recipient’s school.

juniper doubt the not visiting played a role. my son has visited a few times, went to capstone also, spoke with dr morgan a few times at the university, his phone call lasted about 16 min and he felt went well. who knows with these things what it is… maybe the phone interviewer uses a score sheet (alot of these type interviews do and your interviewer scores 8 for the same quality of answer a different interviewer scores as a 9) and you get the tough inteviewer and pffft your chance is gone.

AL, it was probably just a fluke or something. maybe they got lazy near the end of signing all the letters “we want the best for you!” and just stopped? lol, i could see how that would happen.

yeah, i didn’t visit either, although i doubt that’s what did me in.

I did visit, but my phone call was alot shorter than most of yours(only 8 minutes)…I think it went well, but it really wasn’t too fantastic

A main purpose of the phone interview may be to gauge the student’s communications ability. University Fellows are sent out in the community on various projects & internships as representatives of the university. EQ is of equal, or maybe even greater, importance than IQ when functioning in this capacity. Some folks are more gifted when dealing with a lab/academic environment, while others have tremendous people/social skills.
