They may be sending the notices in batches.

Wow…i wonder how many semifinalists they picked
it seemed like everyone on here got one

this waiting is puzzling, making me crazy - much harder on me (mom) than on DS! Definitely a case where having the internet is NOT a good thing!

no … not everyone.

sorry I should have said alot…not everyone

yes, very odd! maybe they are sending them in waves. or fell behind on the rejection letters…

^have thought of hundreds of bizarre scenarios as to why we have not heard… have those who were informed already accepted admission (or not), is it regional? are they those who need to be screened to see if they are seriously considering UA? Have they already visited or spoken in person to Honors College people? You never know TresE, maybe not every candidate is going through the phone interview stage? I have no clue…

al34, we live in alabama, have not accepted admission yet but i would say they know he is seriously considering ua and son has visited honors college before and met with Dr Morgan, not sure that helps… sometimes there is no rhyme or reason… son is waiting on another selective scholarship at another school for which he was notified of semi-finalist status a month ago, was supposed to hear on 15th re finalist and we havent heard yay or nay on that one?

Well, my D has sent in the freshman deposit and housing deposit so that wouldn’t be the criteria.

Are we sure that they sent out rejection emails? I mean, I know R6Ls friend got one, but maybe that’s because he’s also in the CBHP process also and they don’t want him to be discouraged totally about UA.

*I mean, I know R6Ls friend got one, but maybe that’s because he’s also in the CBHP process also and they don’t want him to be discouraged totally about UA. *

I doubt that would be the case, since I doubt that there is any coordination going on between the 2 groups.

It seems like the notifications are going out in batches.

^^ nope, that wouldn’t work, DS has applied for both and has still not heard anything either way. Has also sent in deposits like RobD.
Timing-wise, obviously S would do what’s necessary, but it’s getting late to arrange a phone call for this week, with work, concerts etc.

batches? I hope so as opposed to just falling through the cracks.

I figured I would add this info to help people understand what’s going on

My friend(not semifinalist) has deposited at Bama. He applied for CBHP. He has visited the campus and met Dr. Sharpe. He has yet to get officially accepted into the Honors College and IHP

I have not deposited at Bama. I saw the campus, but have not formally visited. I did not apply for CBHP. I have been accepted to the Honors COllege and IHP

i don’t follow the logic here.

let’s send this guy a rejection for UFE so he doesn’t get discouraged about UA and/or CBHP.

what??

seems the only reported actual “rejection” is R6L’s friend.

mom, do you happen to know if they typically let the rejects know they are rejects? or do they just let them figure it out on their own?? (of course you may not have any experience with rejections. : ) )

seems odd that they wouldn’t let people know either way.

FTR - my DD’s status

not NMSF
accepted to Alabama
never heard anything back on honors app.
has visited (did not meet dr. sharpe or honors college)
has not sent deposit

to those officially ccepted to honors college - is there any way to check that on mybama??

oh my gosh! I’m so sorry for being misleading. I just discovered my friend had emailed the UFE to see if he was a semifinalist or not and got a no that way. He did not just get an email. So, it seems like if you ask, you get a rejection…but if not, then no email

I’m soo sorry for the bad info

Ah! Thanks R6L! Since the phone interviews are scheduled for this week, then I am assuming that no word yet means that D won’t be going forward. Which doesn’t change any thoughts about UA in my view. D doesn’t have anywhere near as many community service hours as other candidates did, so it seems fair. And the honors programs that she’s already accepted into have such fantastic opportunities available that she’ll still have a stellar experience there.

OK, that makes a difference! looks like DS did not get it then…

the rest of you, please keep us posted on your progress :)

*mom, do you happen to know if they typically let the rejects know they are rejects? *

Yes, they do notify those who are rejected.

maybe they let semifinalists know. and when they notify finalists, they will notify rejects…

i mean, the majority of people wouldn’t even know that semifinalists were notified

^^^That is certainly possible, but I don’t think it’s very fair to be giving kids a false sense of hope. Might as well send the denials when the semifinalists are notified, IMHO.

As RobD said, there are plenty other programs at UA which can offer a great experience. People like UFE and CBHP because they are well publicized and may offer additional money. It is quite possible to have a better experience being part of a different program rather than UFE and/or CBHP.

Although we are all guessing what is going on, my thought is they are starting at the top of their list and working down from there. They may find kids who are no longer interested, are not what they seemed “on paper” or are just not what they are looking for. It might take 60,80,100 semi-finalist phone calls before they come up with the group of finalists they want to actually invite on campus. They might get lucky and the first 40 kids on the list all seem to be what they are looking for and they are all still interested and excited about the opportunity and they could end the phone call round at that point and then notify everyone else that they are not finalists. Just a guess…
