yeah, i don’t know. maybe it was the combination of last minute/no LOR/apparently lousy essay (got me rejected from local scholarship competition–should have sent in my common app supplemental essay)? YOUR stats are equally fantastic, and i’m sure all of the applicants who made it to semi also had fantastic stats. including you. :)

tres, dont beat up your essay or yourself! i’m sure it was great! the “problem” with all these scholarships and admissions to selective schools is that all the candidates are great…there is no reason you can pin it on…its just the odds are against everyone… ie fellows possibly 1000 applicants, semifinalists maybe 100. so 9 great students in each group of 10 didnt get it…all of them great. but you got something most of them didnt get didnt you? ea to Yale wasnt it?? odds worked for you on that one…congrats!

thanks! yes, i am an EA admit. still, my parents are really disappointed (to them, scholarship > ivy league), and TBH i am too. :\ good luck to everyone with phone interviews this week.

remind them that you already got the scholarship to UA!!!, so no reason for them to be disappointed
fellows is a “program” (to quote mom2) that yes is prestigous but doesnt necessarily get you any more money (there is an academic elite scholarship but only a few fellows will get that, not all of them) So both your parents and you especially should be very proud of your scholarship you have already acheived!!

LOL…

Yes, UFE is a program…like CBHP is a program. There’s work to do! :)

But, there are many other programs at UA that offer leadership, etc.

BTW…there’s nothing wrong with letting the UFE office know that you’re still interested and you’d be willing to be on a waiting list or whatever, in case a student changes their mind.

Nothing yet… :(

Hmmmmm…

osdad…what are your child’s stats?

My student got a phone call tonight asking why there hadn’t been a response to interview invitation. Re-checked all email accounts and nothing in the in-box or the the spam folder. Interview is now set up for tomorrow night. Some emails may have been caught in the bulk email server at UA. Check your voice-mail.

bizarre! that is very strange, my3tuitions! good thing they called :P

*Some emails may have been caught in the bulk email server at UA. Check your voice-mail. *

Oh jeez…now what are people supposed to do? How are they to know?

My3tuitions…congrats!!! That phone call must have taken you by surprise.

Are they aware that if this happened to your student that it must have happened to others, too???

BTW…who called? Was it Wellon?

mom, since you practically know everybody at UA, maybe you should give them a call tomorrow and report some of what has been shared here.

emails going to spam
some people not getting their semi notification email at all
many hearing nothing at all
etc.

maybe they need to resend emails to all semifinalists and all rejects since, apparently, something didn’t work right the first go round.

i didn’t really expect my kid to “make it”, but i am a little disappointed at the non-notification of the rejects.

LOL

I think I know what happened, but I’ll call tomorrow…

Bama can’t help that some emails are going to Spam folders. That’s due to the individuals email security settings on their own computers.

But, the not getting the emails at all is another problem…I’ll talk to them about that. That’s a bulk email server issue. It can also be the individuals’ issue. My server sometimes won’t accept bulk emails that have been sent to a certain number of people.

^well, i know mine doesn’t accept bulk e-mails either. but i know if i made it (on the off chance) i’ll get a call.

^^^

Tres…

You probably should send Wellon an email mentioning that you know that there has been an email issue and that your server doesn’t accept bulk-emails… Just politely ask if you are a semi-finalist.

be sure to include your CWID number

I have two email addresses for her…

wlbridgers@ua.edu

wellonlbridgers@ua.edu

wow…this is getting crazier and crazier

DD’s stat’s are top notch. EC’s and volunteer service are great (not 1000’s of hours but plenty over many years.) I don’t read her application essays so can’t comment on that aspect.

Mom, let me (us) know if she needs to write Wellon.

I think she should email Wellon just to put an end to the email mystery.

DS forwarded this (annotated) response to this morning’s email asking if he was to assume he is out of the running since did not receive email for semi-finalist status -

… We will be mailing notifications in the next week. Thank you!

Just had my phone interview
Hope it went well!!

Rocket!!!

How did it go? Did you feel nervous? Was it Wellon or Dr. Morgan?

I’m sure you did well! You’re amazing!
