I’m the parent of a sophomore at ND who was accepted EA and I’ve been following these threads. (Her year, decisions still came snail mail. OY!) Anyway, good luck to you all!
Thanks again @GraceDad. Just wondering, do you know what time of day the emails were sent? Or were they sporadic?
Praying that they get out decisions by the 10th… it’s getting harder to wait as the deadline approaches. I’m also waiting for Columbia decisions on the 12th, so I’d rather stress about only one school per day lol
@arp987 I, like many people, have the same problem. Michigan EA is next Friday (most likely) and if ND is on Wednesday, I probably will implode from stress. I’m sure @DryMango and @Seacoast feel the same way.
“The bad news is, now that I’ve given you this information, all of you will be checking your portal 100 times a day, every day next week. LOL”
I thought GraceDad was a good guy. By posting this, he has revealed himself to be sadistically evil.
@collegemomjam My son received his email at 7:06 Eastern on 12/14/15 and the first post of someone noticing that the portal had the decisions was about 10 minutes prior to that. I don’t know for sure if emails were staggered or not.
There was some speculation based upon some tweets from the Notre Dame Office of Information Technology about some internet/network issues might have caused some delay that day.
I had heard that the decisions were posted on 12/15 at 6:42pm ET (18:42pm in military time). 1842 is the year of ND’s founding. Who knows if that will be the case this year.
@northwesty I’m not sure if I should be more offended at your post or that someone clicked “Helpful” on your post. LOL
After watching the Cornell thread yesterday I almost had heart palpitations.
I recollect last year my D had her email around 5 PM Pacific time. It was in the seconds it took for her to get her answer she knew she wouldn’t have to decide between any other options, that ND was it.
Like @suzy100 my oldest got her acceptance by snail mail, and it took three days to get to us. That was awful. So glad they changed that.
Good Luck kids!
I’m just glad that this thread finally has some activity haha
Curious how someone could be waiting for REA decision from ND and also an ED decision from Columbia…
Someone who evidently can’t follow the rules.
@GraceDad Actually I had my guidance counselor talk to admissions and she told me that it was allowed. At first I was going to apply to ND with RD, but then my counselor told me it was alright because REA at ND isn’t binding.
I bet your guidance counselor only talked to Columbia. It’s ND you’d have the issue with.
The rules are very clear: “A student applying Restrictive Early Action to Notre Dame may not apply to any college or university in their binding Early Decision program.”
^^This.
You definitely are not supposed to apply to both. Notre Dame reviewed your app thinking that you did not have any kind of binding applications out there. If they give you a spot, and then you get into Columbia, they wasted a spot on you because now you cannot even go to Notre Dame if you wanted to because you are bound to Columbia (barring financial aid issues). I thought the rules were pretty clear.
I’m pretty certain that College Board notified Notre Dame and the will issue a rejection.
Well either way it’s too late now, I just know that I was given the go ahead by my guidance counselor before I appled to ND. Maybe the fact that I’m applying for financial aid at Columbia (which means that ED isn’t binding if I don’t receive an award that makes it affordable for me) is the reason why she said it was alright. Notre Dame is my second choice and it isn’t likely that I’ll get into Columbia so it’s not like ND isn’t an option for me.
@domer68 I’m pretty sure Common app doesn’t allow schools to see where else you have applied… as far as the rejection we’ll see in a few days
