benjaja: so sorry for the rejection. With those kinds of stats, I’m pretty sure we will be in the same boat today or tomorrow. My d has pretty close to the same.

In New Jersey, and just got my deferral. This sucks. After a rejection from Duke and deferrals from UChicago and ND I’m starting to lose hope. 2290 SAT/ 93/100 GPA at competitive magnet for reference.

Very sorry to hear about your son’s rejection, benjaja. I’m sure we will all end up where we are supposed to be though. There is a reason for everything. I am happy to hear about how quickly letters are travelling though. I wasn’t thinking I would get anything in Maryland until at least Saturday! We will see what comes in the mail in a few hours…

Did he get rejected or deferred?

@thecreator96 don’t lose hope! You still have chance to get in regular round. Even if u don’t u will end up at the school that will make u the happiest

To answer the question, my son was rejected, not deferred. We have lots of other options already, but still discouraging. His sister goes to Boston College so it would have been a good rivalry.

Mail just came in FL but no decisions yet. -_-

@benjaja What kinds of other extracurriculars does you son do? It seems to me like he should have gotten in! He will probably be accepted regular action though!

Mail just came in New Jersey and nothing yet. Sorry to all those who posted rejections or deferrals so far. Anticipation with the wait is too much!!!

So any acceptances by mail yet? I’m getting nervous for my son!

Our son has played hockey for 13 years - both travel team and high school - was a Western PA all star for hockey last year. Plays lacrosse - travel and high school - was a Western PA all star for lacrosse last years. Volunteers weekly in the ER - wants to be a doctor. Was also a National Merit Commended student. Same thing happened to a boy in our high school last year.

Last year 2 kids from our high school did get in with similar credentials, but they were legacies as well.

Did anyone in Chicago get theirs yet? I know some people in the suburbs got theirs, but that’s it so far that I know of from around here! And still no mail yet today

I’m in Chicago, but my mail doesn’t come for another 3 hours approx.

No mail yet in Ohio. I have to say, after some of the rejections and deferrals that have been posted, I don’t have a whole lot of hope.

Can someone post if the receive anything in California? Not expecting anything until Monday but you never know
Looking at some of the stats of kids that have been deferred or rejected is pretty depressing.
These kids are all amazing and any school would be lucky to have them.

What ND looks at is more than we can see in statistics. We don’t know anything about these peoples ECs, Volunteer work, letters of rec, or essays.

FYI, I know that ND looks at more than statistics. My son has already been accepted to 9 schools and one BS/MD program to date (with 2 more interviews in January). He does not have any weaknesses in his application given his success elsewhere. It’s just that a lot or really, really qualified kids apply to ND and some of their decisions seem arbitrary at time. Same for the Ivies. He will do fine wherever he goes, but I do think they give preference to legacies and that is their prerogative. Many of us are in the same boat on this one. I read a study once that showed the better predictor of future success of going to an Ivy League school is actually applying to one, not necessarily getting in. It shows drive, confidence, etc.

Good luck to all.

Someone started a different thread for Class of 2018 EA decisions earlier today. I saw a few acceptances on that one.

Did anyone else get told (by a guidance counselor or anyone else), that they could call today or Monday if they did not get a letter?

The letters will come. Calling admissions isn’t going to do much. It’s not up to them, it’s all in the postal offices hands.
